Benefits from moving stock intercooler?

I assume I can lower my charge temps quite a bit, by moving the stock intercooler to the front of the car.

Has anyone moved the stock unit up front? Reactions?

You can move the stock intercooler to the front, i have actually tried it, but the benefits are pretty much none. With all the extra piping, your power delay is worse, plus the intercooler doesnt really run all that much cooler once you are moving. I have a WOLF 3d so i can monitor my intake charge temps and i cant see much difference at all once you are moving. When sitting in traffic its a little better, but the power delay is not worth the move. If you are going front mount, get a better core that wont have as much pressure loss/inefficiency. Keep your stock IC where it is for now, its not really worth the headache in my opinion.

My TII intercooler is front mounted, though I have never had it top mounted so I cannot judge the improvement. After extended long runs on the highway at 10 PSI, the intercooler output pipe is only barely warm, while the input pipe is too hot to touch. Take that for what you will.

I am confused, the intercooler is the cause of a loss of pressure, or the added piping?

I can't imagine no gains from moving it up front, everytime I touch the intercooler, it is blazing hot.

I seen this older guy run 12s @ NOPI with a stock intercooler up front and he told me it was a good flowing intercooler and was good for 12 psi max!

The added piping causes more "turbo lag"...ie. you step on the pedal and theres slightly more time before you see full boost.

The intercooler has an inherant pressure drop, which increases as you increase the boost. If you are going front mount, might as well use a better cooler.

The stock IC is actually pretty good, all things considered. I have proven (to myself anyway) that it does a good job when front mounted.
