Battery cable rewire Q? and Alt Q?
Two questions...........(sorry-long post!)
1. I replaced these and now my idle has gotten worse, especially when A/C comes on I cant keep it going. Before I did these things it was fine, except it always smelled like my car was on fire. Now idle sucks and still smells like a fire. I replaced:
a. (+) & (-) battery cable with overkill 2ga marine grade cable (they didnt have enough 4ga)
b. Engine-firewall ground with 8ga
c. (-) 4ga from battery to strut tower
d. (+) 8ga from battery to front of fuse box
e. A month ago or so I replaced the Ign switch, headlight switch, and headlight switch harness
2. Question on the two wires from the alt. Havent replaced these yet, but one wire goes from the alt to rear of fuse box, and the other goes to a black connector. Do I need to replace both wires? What is the black connector to???

for number two, the black connector has two small wires. one goes to a 12v ign. source and the other one goes to the back of the idiot light panel. just plug up the connector and you're done.
that one wire that goes to the rear of the fuse box is a power wire. that should see 12v. all the time. and should lead to the top post of the alt.
for #1, 2 gauge is never overkill
did you replace the wire from the battery to the starter?
did you beef up the starter ground?
did you run an inline fuse close to the battery?
i really don't see why the AC would be doing this if you just replaced the above. maybe it's time for a recharge?
maybe you got a weaker alt.?

Thanks for the info
WAYNE88N/A, I did run (+) to the original location on starter but (-) one to back of engine where trans attaches. Thats where they were attached when I removed the original wires. Im thinking my computer may be relearning because operation seemed a little better yesterday
SIR RUPERT, glad you brought up the starter ground cause I forgot to ask that. Not sure which wire that is and not sure what size I need to replace it with. Man I'm stupid when it comes to electrical stuff.

The starter ground IS the main ground. Actually, the best spot to install the main ground is close to the component that sucks the most juice- the starter...
Theoretically, that big main ground cable could go anywhere on the engine (even to the alt body!). As long as the housing to housing to tranny contact is superb, the starter would never know the difference.
Not many guys would want 100 amps flowing through their housings, though, lol...
