Exclamation Bad Vibration Problem

Okay so i have my 90 gxl that i drive daily, it has 92k original miles and runs perfect. It has the automatic tranny "for now" and has factory power steering. So my problem is that i have a bad vibration at any speed that changes with rpm and i cant find out the cause. The car has new brakes all the way around and is running on s4 turbo wheels with 225/50/16 kuhmo mx tires. The vibration is slow and rough at low speeds with steady rpm and smooths out some when over 4k but is still there. and no matter what the speed if you let off the gas completly it goes away, barely touch the gas again and its right back.

Id really like to figure this out and would appreciate the input!!!

It started a couple weeks ago, just came outa no where really.
And ive checked the drive shaft u-joints and the axles for play or obviously worn parts and everything looks good. I just put these wheels and tires on a week ago and the problem started when i was still running the stock gxl wheels.

so it started when you had the old wheels on or with the new wheels?
or you put on new tires and then it started?

Have you tried any hands on the car approach yet?.Like jack the car up and check the wheels for play?..up/dow..in/out/..side to side?
Where does the vibration seem to start?..front back, passenger, driver?
..as much info as possible is good to toss up..
right now "we'z fishin"

ok heres everything ive checked so far.... driveshaft u-joints, axles, ball joints, tie rods, tranny fluid and rear diff fluid, wheel bearings. Ive checked pretty much everything i can think of and everything seems to be good. This is my 3rd Fc and im def not new to the world of working on these cars or any car for that matter, thats why this is driving me nuts. Well that and the fact that i have a 30 min drive to work everyday that feels like my cars gonna fall apart. :/

And it feels like its coming from the driveshaft or rear of the car, but everything seems good. To me it seems like it has to be in the driveline since it changes more with the rpm then it does with the speed and if u let completely off the throttle while cruising it stops until u touch the throttle again.

If you haven't pulled the driveshaft off the car to check it you should do so. Here's a link to a youtube vid I made when mine did the same thing. Mine had the exact same issues and it was the front u-joint but without taking it off I couldn't tell it was bad. That thing decides to shred and it can turn your transmission into a cluster bomb of shrapnel.

I didn't noticed this until I pulled it out to do an engine swap and it also caused all the fluid in my transmission to either leak or burn and turn to sludge. But you can see how bad mine was in the vid. last weekend I took a 2lb sledge to it to break it loose the rest of the way to use as a tailshaft plug for my fluid and it took me two blows with the sledge to finish it off

Ok today had the time to get the car up in the air and had a helper. And it is the front u-joint, one of the bearings is completly gone but there is no slop in it when u check by hand. So now i guess i need to find a replacement driveshaft for cheap since im on an extreme budget and really need the car to get to work. Time for searching!!!!!

Thanks for all the input, was a big help!!

I'd sell you my spare but I just sold it last week. And I've heard the you can't replace the factory u-joints, not sure how true this is, so ask Rotary Evolution (formerly Karack) or Aaron Cake, they would know. Check around the local junkyards and post in the Wanted forum and search through part outs

I really dont have the time to wait for a u-joint to come in or to spend trying to get it switched out. So im searching the local scrap yards even though 2 of the ones ive called so far have never even seen an rx7 in person. Dam do i miss living down south
