Bad coolent seal?

Well first off I just got another engine from a 1987 vert. The engine has not ran for 1 year because the engine had a small fire, the owner put a new ecu harness but stopped there. My dad and I got the engine off him for 125 dollars. So a few days ago we put the engine in and start the car, it idles smoothly but after a couple of minutes it starts to smoke, the first day we started the car smoke was everywhere now today it smokes a very bit. My concern though is that I have a bad coolent seal. Is that so? My dad tells me its just smoke from oil, but this is his first time with rotarys. I'm just concrend right now do I have a bad coolent seal? Or should I just let the car run a few more time and check it out? Any advice would be great.

Check the oil. If the oil is milky then its for sure your coolent seal.

does it smoke all the time?
have you noticed you are loosing coolant?
open the fill neck cap and start you car if there are bubbles coming up you have a blown coolant seal.

ok first of all, what color is the smoke? was it out the exhaust or just in the engine bay? just in the engine bay would just be crap burning off the motor since its been sitting for a while.

if the smoke is coming out of the exhaust, and is white in color, then you should definately check your oil like bucnasty said. If you have access to a pressure tester, check the cooling system. Keep a very close eye on your coolant level to determine if it is dropping or not.

When we got the motor in we changed the oil right away and today we changed it again, and I will check with the filler cap later today, and no smoke from the engine bay just exhaust and it looks white/grey? As I mentioned earlier barley any smoke today but still see a bit coming out of the exhaust.
And Thanks

motors that sat for a while w/ fluids (i.e. coolant) still in the system tend to seep past the seals like the intake manifold etc.could also be just condensation in the housings due to gas sitting in it over a period of time.

let it warm up and drive it around for a bit and see if it changes.then let it cool down and see if you lost any coolant after.

Just start it and run it everyday for a week and see if things get better. Mix a bit of two stroke oil with TCW3 in with your gas in case the OMP is NOT working. If, after a week, your still worried, get a lisle funnel and check your coolant system for exhaust bubbles. You can also make sure the coolant overflow has some coolant in it, warm the car up to operating temp, leave the radiator cap ON, pull the cap from the overflow just enough to see if exhaust bubbles are being forced pass the radiator cap into the overflow.

Does it smell sweet? When I had a coolant seat go out due to overheating, the exhaust smoke was white and smelled very sweet.

Uh oh...

I hope your Oil Seals aren't fucked, is there any leaking of oil by the oil filler cap?

am wishing it luck man

just make sure you keep a really close eye on your oil and coolant levels. check them every day, after every time you drive it. bluish/grey smoke at startup and when cold would be normal for a rotary.... grey is normal for any car, rotaries have the bluish smoke as well because of the omp. once your engine is warm though, if it is warm enough outside you should see VERY little to NO smoke coming from your exhaust. good luck man and keep us updated!

Ok now quick update. Car does not smoke anymore when I start it. And it drives very well. But now 2 other things came and blocked my way of having a fun ride. 1 is the car will start to overheat after driving for a certain amount of time. And 2nd there is a oil leak somewhere that I have to locate. All in all though things are getting better
