Is this a bad AFM?

So I finally got my car to turn over, and when it runs... most of you will know but it just sounds like pure sex.

Anyways, It starts up great and idles firm around 1,300RPM but then cuts out after like 5 seconds. I can rev it to 3,000RPM and it drops back down to 1,300RPM easy but again, it would cut out after 5-10 seconds. I figure it can't be any vacuum leak since I went through the entire engine to make sure there were no leaks, and afterwards it finally ran. The reason why I ask if it is the AFM is because it is a known part that requires replacing and having a bad AFM would tell the ECU to run limp(?) or off... right?

I'm hoping this is a quick and easy fix since my temp. smog paper is going to expire soon.

s4 or s5?

When my AFM (s4)went bad it wouldn't rev over 3,000 rpm. Have you messed with the afm? I don't think it's a common thing to break. Mine broke because I messed with it.

What happens if you keep trying to rev it or keep the idle high?

It's an S5. I can rev it up and I think I can get it to keep running if my foot stays on the throttle but dies after I let my foot off. If I don't rev it, it stays idling for 5-10 seconds before it shuts down.

Sounds like something is leaking (vac leak)

Try to keep reving it till the temp guage comes up to normal. Then see if it will idle. It may have something to do with the cold start system.

If it's warm and doesn't idle something must be loose esp if you have tampered with it then all of a sudden it won't run.

When did this start to happen?
