Exclamation Backup lights / 5th switch / Split Air Solenoid Valve? (RETed? :) )

Hey,
I'm in the process of wiring up the ACV and all the emissions crap with my haltech and had a Q on the "Split Air Solenoid Valve." The FSM says that it is 'on' when the backup light / 5th switch is on. How is this possible? -- the FSM says that the backup light / 5th switch is 'on' when the transmission is in reverse, but off when in 5th. Wouldn't this mean that the 5th switch is also 'off' when it is in gears 1-4?! If that is the case, then how the heck does the Split Air Solenoid Valve get turned on only when the car is in 5th or when reversing?

Thanks!!!!

The fifth gear switch, or over the top switch, merely puts a ground on the split air solenoid and pin one I(eye) of the ECU. See the wiring diagram. Your manual does not have one?????? Here's a jpg.
