IN Aux valve replacement - any suggestions?

Found out part of the reason i have poor top end - my rear aux valve shaft is broken off at the actuator flange.. or whatever youd call it. So the actuator was just slopping up and down not doing anything with the valve. And if it ever worked before, the actuator was stuck open... a little liquid wrench and grease fixed that stuck. actuator problem.

WHY that flange shaft is broken i have no idea... I took the plenum off and i believe i was able to turn the valve w. my finger.. so i dont think it was locked up in the housing. Judging by the looks of the randomly placed bolts and the broken off fuel rail **** on the plenum - a moron worked on this thing last. I just thank god the o-rings on the fuel rail were enough to hold the pressure...

So to replace this thing, is there anything i should know other than remove the intake manifold and slide in a replacement valve? The FSM doesnt quite go over this other than "install intake manifold gasket..... install auxiliary port valve..." (to that degree of simplicity anyway.)

Thanks for any info...
chris

Hmm, if it's just the shaft that's broken off, you might be able to undo the 2 screws from the outside of the LIM and pull it out. I don't know if there's a bearing pressed in there, or it it's just something you can pull out. On the inside, the shaft just grabs onto the sleeve and turns it. They're not actually attached. It'd be worth a look before taking the LIM off.

But if not, you'll need new manifold gaskets (3) and probably some new fuel line. The old stuff tends to leak when you re-use it.

Ya,they the actuator sleeves just pull out.
that is if you Pull the lower manifold off.
the piece that turns it(looks like a small shrimp fork) I am sure is like teflon or plastic,so if the sleeve was stuck open temporarily, and the actuator Tried to de-activate it,then Snap!.(just a guess).

You guys were right about removing that one... thankfully. The whole shaft assembly is metal but where its machined down at the thinnest point, it snapped there, go figure right! The thing was alittle crusty with varnish and everything but carbon, dont know what thats all about. So whats up with all the vacuum lines and thin yellow/clear lines running to several points in the engine? is that part of the oiling system or something?
Anyway, I gotta parts wanted post up now if anyone has one of those "shrimp fork" aux port shafts.. haha, there isnt a better way to describe that in lamens terms.
Thanks again,

Chris

Just buy yourself a complete LIM, and make sure it's the same series as your car (S4 or S5). The actuators are slightly different, and I don't think the shafts will interchange. I don't think anyone will be willing to just pull out that little piece and sell it alone, and an NA LIM will cost next to nothing.

And to answer your other question, the clear lines are from the metering oil pump to the 4 oil injectors. Each of these has an air source that helps force oil through. Be careful around the lines too. After ~20 years, the plastic will be brittle.
