Autozone Exhaust manifold gasket

so yah i purchased a exhaust manifold gasket at my local autozone, 91 mazda rx7 turbo.. and the next day i go to pick it up, i didnt have my reciept , the guy gave me a lil hard time, but he finds the gasket and gives it to me in the box.. i go outside to my car thinking "ok its in this long box".. and i open it up and its for a 4 cylinder.

I go back in and let him know its teh wrong gasket.. He looks up the part in the computer and the partnumber on this gasket matches the part number in the computer for 91 mazda rx7 turbo..

Dude doesnt believe me, I tell him this gasket is for a 4 cylinder because it has 4 ports, he asks how many cylinders do i got. I say its a 2 rotor it should only be 2 ports. He is confused... "No cylinders?"

I tell him the part is wrong, he goes no its correct because its in their computer, and basically says im out of luck because i already picked it up and it was a special order he cant take it back since i already ocnfirmed it.. .. grrr..

Well i went home and found my reciept, should I print a picture of what a RX7 exhaust gasket looks like and bring it to them?

I dont mean to give anyone a hard time, they just following their rules, but i think their system is wrong.

Anyone have this problem?>

the part i got was a Fel Pro MS94532 which according to a google search fits a mzda 323, miata, a few kias etc..

Yeah, I worked at a parts store for a couple years, Stuff like this happens all the time. Id say youd have a good chance of them taking it back if you bitch long enough. Managers hate pissed customers more than they care about small rules most of the time.
Next time, go to Advance Auto

Why don't you get one from a dealer or mazdatrix instead of gettiong a paper piece of **** gasket.

Take it back and tell the guy at the counter to get an education.

well i know hes just doin his job..

Ill jus go back and show em its teh wrong one.

I searched earlier and read that typical auto store gasket is metal anyways and should work so i figured it would be ok..

This one they gave me is metal not paper.. so i do know they have metal ones.

Here is what Napa has for exhaust gasket yet i dunno if thats for hte manifold or not

I'm assuming it looks like this one.

The one you have up goes between the pipes on your exhaust. And between your pipes and the muffler.
And for being a guy that works at Autozone, trust me when I tell you. Dont go there for RX7 parts. We have **** in our computers. We dont even carry NGK plugs. Go to Napa or for your best bet, reputable online stores. While it may be a bit more expensive online, it's better quality and you know your not gonna get ripped off.

Yes the OEM gaskets are EXPENSIVE.. about 75.00

but it is SOLID metal and the turbo ones are much more then the n/a gaskets..

sorry but if u need one it is gonna cost you..

if you go anywhere else they may want to give u the fiber gasket for the n/a.. this will not hold up you need the TURBO solid metal gasket

Ummm the only one that I think you can get from an autoparts store is the exhaust mani to engine block gasket. You can't get any of the turbo gaskets there I already tried.

Mazdatrix has been cheaper than my dealer every time I needed a part. Hell a turbo slave cylinder from mazdatrix is half the price my dealer wants.

Not only is Mazdatrix cheaper, but it costs more in gas to drive to a dealership than it does for Mazdatrix to ship it to my door!
The dealershit never seems to have what I want in stock anyways.

Lets see, you can buy one OEM metal gasket from mazdatrix, or end up blowing through 10 of the cheap ones. Which will end up costing you same amount of money and MORE headache, DONT cheap out on exhaust gaskets. Unless you like failling at life. I speak from experience on this, i've removed exhanged and swapped exhausts so much. The metal ones are the only way to go, its the only thing that lasts and the only thing thats re-useable.

Engine to manifold - part# 13-4610-N386 - $71.71

Manifold to turbo - part# 13-710A-N370 - $36.54

I had to buy both of these this week actually. Got them from Mazdatrix, got a nifty free license plate surround as well.

I was going to try to get a gasket from Auto Zone, but then I remembered when I had to order a brake rotor, and it took them THREE TRIES to get the right one. So, I decided to get OEM.

well if they were telling him the RX-7 does not have a drive shaft, then they were still wrong; conversely if he was telling them that the RX-7 has a drive shaft yet no half shafts, then he was also wrong.

I refuse to shop at Autozone, have for years, and I rarely hear anything that could possibly dissuade me. Someone mentioned Advance Auto Parts. Go there. They have a lot of ****, and if they don't have it they can usually get it, and I've found their prices are always competitive. I picked up a clutch slave cylinder for a guy's Nissan last week for $12, the hose was $20. Dirt ******* cheap, and if they don't have it I go to O'Reillys then Arnold Motor Supply.

For the price they are charging you can go make your own gasket out of piece of metal.
Take a sheet of copper and trace the pattern out on it, then cut them roughly and make sure to match up bolt holes. Then you can match the gasket opening to the manifold runner.
I don't see this taking long few hours at most, especially for the fact that it's a simple design layout.
