autocrossing an NA
so how many people here autocross their NA 7s? How does the car stack up to other cars in the class (and, what stock class do they run in?)
I know some cars are just known for cleaning house in their class. And I know a lot has to do with the driver, but taking the driver out of the equation ... I hear the RX-7 handles very well comparatively.
I haven't autoX'd this car yet (last year it was not seaworthy) so my main concern is it's lack of torque. If you're on a smallish track with a top speed of 45 or so, and you plan on staying in second the whole time, getting out of turns quickly could be a real trick.
So share your autocross stories

In stock form it's in ES.
The MR2 and the Miata beat me up regurlarly but I'm sure that the nut behind the wheel is the one that needs tweaking.
Yes, torque is a problem. If you find some lying around, let me know.

Does anyone know if having the mods in my .sig will bump me out of stock class? I'm guessing yes

This is all kind of a moot point for me because I am doing the TII swap, and I have not had the chance to run regularly (enough to accumulate points and make it worth my while) for the past couple of years. I usually run in CSP with my GTUs. I just need to get the car dialed in a little more (and some new rubber) but I am running about 2-5 seconds behind most everyone and about 7-10 seconds behind the Miata guys
. And this is on AVS Intermediates, wait till I get some Hoosiers and I will suck up those 2-5 seconds no prob. But soon I will have to change classes due to the motor. Oh well new learning curve.

The cats and the catback are fine for ES, but the header will knock you out. You'll end up in a street prepared class...might be CSP. Odds are, you'll get flogged - especially as a new auto-xer.
This link will take you to a good list of classes and cars in them. It has stock and treet prepared classes.

really, the miata? I heard those did pretty good, but I didn't think they'd even be in the same class. Shows what I know.

I'll surely be spanked, then.

You can probably run in ES with those mods, unless you start winning. And that will not be a problem since you are new at this. If you start winning someone could protest and they would find the header. But I highly doudt they(SCCA inspectors) would notice the header when thay do the tech inspection on your car before your heat race.

I was on a really short course here in philly and i felt i did alright for my first time out. i didn't get lost on course and i didn't hit any cones
. That can be taken two ways, i wasn't driving hard enough and getting close enough to the cones, or i'm just that good. You guess which one it is. ![Wink](https://www.rx7club.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Just have fun don't worry about competing your first few times out. I was put into CSP because i only had a cone air filter the rest of the car was pretty much stock. I didn't worry about it tho. The only other guy in CSP had an early model M3and i was only 2 seconds behind him. That's a lot on such a short course but remember my car was "stock".
Talk to the veterans and hang with them when you walk the course they may just give you some pointers.![bgth](https://www.rx7club.com/images/smilies/biggthumpup.gif)
And most importantly, have fun.

I ran a GXL in CSP with just a cone filter, and finished mid pack. On race day I was sleed deprived and showed up late, so I never got to walk the corse. I am not great driver by, I just was taking it slow. When I tried to go fast, I got lost, hit cones, and slid around too much.

I want to try autoxing. I wouldn't really do it to win, but just for fun. You can't do stuff like that around town.
My dad has a 72 911, (ignoring driver skill) would he beat me? I won't be racing until i get better tires, but almost anything is better than snow-tires.

in parking lot autoX, drivers skill has a lot to do with going fast.... also, how long (length) your car is seems to effect times too....
at my autoX
Z06 vett = about 1:49 (damn fast) fastest stright up time at our course... in a car.
go cart that can do 80mph = 1:45 (crazy fast)
