Auto transmissions

First of, if you are going to say do a 5sp swap, please don't post here. Its too much trouble for me to do that right now, i would love to, but it would cost more than i paid for the car to do the conversion, plus the fb has all the perfomance parts/is manual.
Now... that is out of the way.
I have an S4, what kind of auto transmissions can I put into it, only s4? or will s5 or s6 be able to swap into them. I have no idea if they can or not, flame me all you want, but please answer the question.

uhm, i dont remember what you can do as far as swapping from s4 to s5. im sure its way more work than its worth

s4 is the worst, s5 is electric, and fd is alright but still a shitty slushbox

i owned a auto s4 base, and it only cost $400 and i didnt do anything to that car, i just drove it. It was my first RX-7 and in all honesty. wasnt worth half a **** to upgrade to 5 lug/big brakes and 5speed because of how much it would cost to swap stuff just to upgrade my car to what pretty much every other FC came with stock.
It was actually a clean car and would be worth easily 4 times what I paid for it had it not been an auto. It had 78k miles, faded paint, a dent in fender, very clean interior and ran perfect. One reason I got it cheap is just that they had owned it since new and wanted to get a new car and get rid of it cheap.

I learned and bought a t2 later on

And yes I have driven a stock automatic FD and it sucked *****. Even with 255hp and twin turbos it sucked and wasn't as fun as your first time driving an fd should be.

RX-7s are just not torquey cars and I feel that automatics should only be used in a performance situation with a Turbo where you can power brake, or with a torquey motor. And I mean like gobs of v8 torque all over the powerband.

dunno if you could use FD tranny but a seriously doubt it. I believe the s5 auto is kinda close, doubt its near exact operation.

But sorry to say, theyre all garbage. Just upgrade the car with parts you can use on a manual car if you want performance and if you keep the car and swap 5sp keep those parts and if you sell it and get a 5sp model just swap the parts.

Sorry for the rant but ive just had my bad experiences with autos

Yeah my auto is busted. It will also cost more to convert the car that I paid for it, so its not really worth it, but I have no idea its already a gxl with the nice brakes and stuff. If i didn't live in apartments i would just buy a car with a busted motor but good tranny and swap my engine and stuff into it, but yeah. Thanks for the infol.

You know any good Torque convertors besides Level10? That is what you're talking about right? When you said with gobs of V8 torque all over the band. And as for Turbo purposes, I guess a TII turbo would be good for this situation, unless there's something better.

well, a t2 would be "better" but its still a 1.3l

and by v8 gobs of torque i literally mean like a 350 small block chevy or something

and there are no shiftkits or torque convertors in the US at all for the JATCO auto that is in your car.
does level 10 make a convertor for our....let me rephrase that, your automatic?

damn i had 2 auto trannys s4 and s5. threw them in the trash, they never sold. anyway the auto tranny is computer controlled, all 3 models. none are inerchangeable. beleve me i tried. i bought an s5 auto and got a s4 t2 motor and the wireing didnt comply. thought about putting the s4 auto tranny but it still wouldnt work. so i did the 5speed swap. it was cheap and easy. i had a t2 trannt in my garage. good luck.

I've got a auto GXL and I love the damn thing. Just go to a junk yard and find an auto tranny that’s about the only place you will find one and replace it. It might not be worth anything to anyone else but it is to you, so screw them and go ahead and fix it. If you can’t find one try car-parts.com or rx7heaven if they are still around he sometimes has some auto parts lying around.

Well, Level10 does have a shift kit(Shiftronic) for my and your auto...if you have one, that lets you shift your auto like a manual...they also sell torque convertors for my car as well. Performance transmissions, too. I heard about the company in an import magazine because this one chick who drove a sleeper Integra, with a Level10 tranny, and a Jackson Supercharger.

Talking

I have a tricked 4N71b (non electronic) behind my tII and it is ducks nuts. TCE converter 2700rpm stall + Keas modified 4N71B semi-auto mod. Makes a manual look like a very slow option. It shifts like a sledge hammer was being used shift gears!

You mean TCI converter. I just did a search on that converter, and it seems as if, they only make those for american muscles, and well....Hondas. But I'd love to hear more about this. Like where you got it from, etc... Everything.
