auto trans problem
Can anyone please tell me if the smoke coming from underneath my car is due to a trans leak or oil from a motor change that leaked on to the exhaust? I posted this same question a few days ago but no one seemed to want to reply. I would think that someone out there would know. This is my first 7 and it is an auto but it only has 80k on it and is a 91 gxl in mint condition and I got it for 700 dollars because the previous owner could not figure this one out. Please help!!!!

You'll need to driveup on some ramps or jackup the front end and look. If you don't see oil pooling on the driveway, then it's probably leaking under load/driving only. Wipe-down the transmission & oil pans, drive a bit, and then see which pan is gunked up.
Besides the pans it could be an oil cooler line, front cover gasket leak, etc...
It's pretty easy to spot, you just have to look underneath the car.
Are you having to add oil or automatic tranmission fluid ?

Be glad you only have a small problem. I on the other hand, gotta buy a new torque convertor. Go me. Despite hearing people say, "sell the car," I love my car and plan on blowing money into to make it run/look right.

my auto tranny has lasted pretty well considering my mods.........I plan on driving it till it stops working then swapping to manual.....I figure im putting over 230 to the wheels, and ive been doing that for about 3000 miles on a car with 67k on it to start....it still shifts well, although its getting a lil sloppy shifting into second..........I need to work on my grammer skills........anyways thats my experiance with the auto tranny in a 91 fc
