You think I don't know what the hell I'm talking about!? Holy ****, our cars stop making HP long before the 7k redline buzzer. Just because the car redlines at 7k and you hear the buzzer does not mean you are producing more HP. I had my car dyno'd 6 months ago and the sheet clearly shows that at 6500rpm the HP curve spikes down. Meaning there is no point in waiting the last 500rpm and the buzzer to sound before one should shift. You want to shift as soon as your car stops producing HP. Therefore you get a shift light so you can shift in the most reasonable RPM. I'm not into the damn rice ****! I hate rice! Don't treat me like I think the damn tach is gonna give me more HP. ****, you guys are the ******' retards.

I didn't think about it, i had a 5" tach in my Mustang 5.0 and I thought it looked good. i don't think the Auto Meter tach would make my car look rice. You guys think it does but I'm not you guys.

you can do what you want, its your car i could care less... i dont think all large tachs look ricey but the problem is that every riced out civic has one, so ever since fast and the furious and the ricer revolution large tachs have just been looked at like that
personally, if i wanted a shift light, i wouldnt get a tach mainly because those big tachs are expensive

WRONG!!! if the dyno shop you went to was worth anything they would have integrated your power curve in order to find the greatest average power available per gear. the ideal shift point is rarely right when you make peak power (but usualy shortly thereafter). you want to shift to acheive the greatest AVERAGE power.
i suggest you do some more reading on this subject and find a more knowledgable dyno shop.
and realy man, why tear up a perfectly good dach to have a tach that is a whole 1 inch wider and probobly in a worse location visibilty wise anyway. you could have spent that money on something that would have actualy made your car faster, not ricier.

people who call people rice for getting a tach are so annoying, just keep it to yourself, blah. I did a 5 speed swap when. the s5 auto redline is at 7K while the manual is at 8K and i was thinking about getting a new tach, that doesnt mean im rice...but i decided not to cuz its not that big of a deal -_-" Whatever im just annoyed at this cuz everytime somebody says somethign about an aftermarket tach some *** always has to call the person rice instead of offering help

Pending that the install will likely NOT be using the stock wires, with a custom wire ran into the engine bay, you can choose to set the tach up in either 4 cylinder mode or 8 cylinder mode.
By taking the input signal from the trailing tachometer, like the stock one does, you receive 4 spark signals/two revolutions, identical to that of a 4 cylinder engine.
But if you take the negative signal from the leading coil, there is a wastespark for each rotor, and thus there are 8 spark signals for every 2 revolutions, equivalent to a 8 cylinder car.
A 6 cylinder and 4 cylinder setting would give similar outputs at idle and low rpm, but the difference would become more significant as rpms increase.

As for the big tach thing, I'm sick of everything being called "rice" too. But that doesn't change the fact that a 5" tach screwed into your dash is frickin' ugly, and totally pointless considering the size and location of the stock one. A low-profile adjustable shift light is a much smarter choice.

Are you positive on the wastespark? I set up an aftermarket tach for somone on the front coil set-up under 8-cyl mode, and there is no way that the car is revving to an actual 17,000 rpm.

The leading coil is one double-post coil. It fires every time one of the leading plugs needs to spark. The two leading plugs fire once each per rev, so the coil must fire twice per rev, just like a 4-cyl.
Have you seen the 13B waste-spark ignition animation at Rotary Engine Illustrated? It makes this stuff much easier to understand.

Thanks for the info fellas. I don't think a tach is rice either. It's simply and investment that I have chosen to make so that I don't over rev my motor when it becomes hard to watch the road, the car you are racing, and the stock tach all at the same time. Plus I don't plan on mounting it on the top of the dash. So that way it will not disrupt mmy view. It's not rice and I don't want to be like any ****** civic piece of ****. Give me a break.
