Arrow auto to 5spd redline and TII redline on S4's

I have a 88 FC auto GXL, converting to 5spd (in progress). I have never hit the redline buzzer yet so i don't know if it even works.

1st. I want to try and keep my guage cluster.

2nd. I think its a TII tach/cluster cuz it reds at seven and has no PRND21 display, or that feature just didn't come on S4 clusters, either one .

3rd. I have both speedo gears and both diffs and both trans. (auto and 5spd)

4th. Later i will get a TII engine and trans so thats kinda why i don't want to get a 5spd cluster, because I'm pretty shure TII's redline at 7K.

5th. Anymore info needed please ask.

1st question

If i do not change the cluster can i redline at eight or will it try to shut down?
Somewhere i remember someone saying there is no rev limiter just a buzzer but i'm not sure if that is true.

2nd question

If someone does a TII swap into a standard FC and the redline is 8k on N/A's, do you guys with TII swaps shift a 7k or push it to 8k?
That is assuming that TII's do redline at 7k.
I know some might just swap to a TII cluster, but this question is for the one's who didnt swap the cluster.

I'm in the process of swapping the t2 drivetrain into my 88 vert. I am not swapping the guage cluster, I will get an aftermarket boost guage. I'm putting in a FCD (fuel cut defenser) so essentially the guage will be wrong anyway. As far as the redline, I may be wrong here, but that should all be controlled within the ECU, which you'll have to use the T2 ECU, so the rev limit is set within your engine computer. I haven't got it going yet, so I can't answer the shift question, but my own personal feeling is if you want it to last longer, don't run the **** out of it every single time or she'll blow. Push it as hard as you want but it won't last. If its recommended to redline at 7k, it might not hurt to go past that once in a while but myself, I won't. The time and money I'm putting into this, I want it to last. Just my opinion.... some may be wrong! heh!

My car was originally an automatic S5. It was converted to 5 speed manual and it still has the automatic gauge cluster. I'm not sure what the guy did to it, but the redline buzzer comes on at 7k just like it should. My gauge cluster reads PRNDSL. The funny thing about my car is that I can keep going all the way up to 8 and it doesnt shut off....no bouncing no shutting down no kicking, nothing it just braaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAA.....(probably not good for my engine, regardless it still does it. Although i've only done it 2 times just to see what happens)

I'm not sure if the s4's had PRND21 but they do redline at 7k.

You are right about the other stuff, t2's redline at 7k so there would really be no point in changing ur gauge cluster (unless you want the little shift up light or the stock boost gauge.)

First, why haven't you hit the redline buzzer? This is not a piston engine, you can run it all the way to redline and a little past without damage.

Second, you have an 88 that would be an s4, which would redline at 7k with a manual.

Third, it completely depends on your setup where you shift. If I want performance, out of my 5-speed s4, I shift a little after the buzzer goes off (about 7500 rpm.)

With a standalone ECU and s5 rotors and planetaries, 9000 rpm is probably a good point to shift.

Having never owned a Turbo II, I can't say for sure. Riding in one, the boost seems to taper off after about 6500 rpm. (So shifting much after this is pointless.)

Never hit redline because i've had trans probs so i didn want to mess it up before i could do my trans swap.

Ok sorry i thought both s4 and s5 manual redlined at 8K.

Cool so no need to worry about redline difference in a s4 auto, 5sp, or TII there all the same then.

Thank you everyone.
