Question ARRGH!!! Someone help me with my S-AFC! PLEASE??

OK, WTF?!.... I just put in the S-AFC this weekend... I soldered all the connections.... all per the manual... the 2 ground wires 1cm apart.... RPM hooked to the trailing coil.. (readout is exact).. My settings are 4 cyl, 6in6out, flapper, throttle up, lo-40% hi 80%, All that crap... anyways, I started it up with 0%.. and it died immediately!! It runs OK now, but I have ito have it leaned out by -20% to -40%!!! Hi throttle has to be at -20% or else I can't accelerate... It kindof running "not well" either..... Oh, I have stock injectors, and fuel pump right now....

Anyone have any ideas??? The car was running fine before this... a tad rich, but OK....

OK, I just tested the input and output wires on the AFC, (from the AFM, and to the ECU) and the voltage difference between them is exactly what they should be at the given correction. If I set 0%, they are the exact same voltage.
SO, I am tending to think it's NOT the AFC...
When I put the AFC in, I was also planning on installing my 550cc injectors, BUT, after I tore the manifold off, I found that they have a different plug!! So I put the manifolf back on... I have taken it on and off at least 5 times, and I know what I'm doing..... What the hell could I have missed to make the engine run super rich????
Before I did any of the this, the car had just recently started running really rich, it wouldn't even go over 7500 RPM's!! But not like this...
I am thinking the fuel pressure regulator could be siezed or something....
I'd love some input here....

It might be a bum AFC. Where did you buy it from?

I got it used from a guy in San Fransisco... he said he got rid of it because he got a standalone...
I really hope it's not bad.

Just for input BamBam

I has spoken to you on the phone about my S-AFC. I had run it up to 50 across the board and down to -50 and no results. Dam engine should have been knocking it's way into a coffin. I spoke with Ari at Rotary Performance and requested that I send it back and have it tested by Apexi. He agreed, I shipped ASAP. Any way, just an update. In the middle of installing the car stereo. Sound dampening in the doors are GREAT!! Doors shut like an American made car.

Wishing you luck with your S-AFC

I feel your pain Bambam... I made lots of post and didnt find ansewer. But i will tell u that I think your afc is fine. I bought mine used and had to take it off...car ran fine... I sold it here for 150 bucks making people aware in the posts that my car ran bad. I was confident that it was my cars tuning in wich the afc amplified the effects. The guy that i sold it too said it worked perfect. So im pissed now because i cant figure out what the **** was wrong with my wiring... I soldered all connections but I know the tps was out of adjustment and that I might have a vacum leak.. I also had a slight mis at cruise one every second (that i still have and cant figure out) before I even installed it... So somethings up with your car or wiring... Get it professionally installed for like 60 bucks I think it costs.

my car had cold start sputtering when excelerating at all rpms like it was some huge fuel ignition cut off. The idle sucked too like it was being flooded. Car stunk worse of gas...Dont sell it like I did. I will have to buy another one and probly lose money...Just figure out your problem buy asking around with specialist who had the problems and mabey u can figure somthing out.

That sounds like the EXACT same symptoms as mine.... it seems to be dropping the voltage to the ECU from the AFM too much or something.... making the car run REALLY rich... my two grounds are a little farther than 1cm apart, more like 2 or 3, I wonder if that would make a difference??
The funny thing is, I tested the voltage on the wire from the AFM, and to the ECU from the AFC, and they matched when I set the unit at 0%.. so why won't it freakin run unless I set it to -30%!!!
I'll take your advice and hold on to it...

TommyTsunami- That is odd about your AFC... are you changing the right settings?
Try changing the LO throttle, 1000 rpm while at idle, up and down, you should be able to get the car to stall. If not, than maybe the person who installed it for you couldn't get the AFC to work and just bypassed the signal to look good....
Glad the stero is working well.... I recommend sound dampening in the doors for ALL RX-7's.... even not related to stereo acoustics.

I also had my grounds around 1.5 inches apart because I didnt have the manual.. I had too look on APEXI and wasnt as detailed. In fact I put one ground really close to the ECU and the other past all the soldering...And my car actually ran pretty good after the car warmed up after 5 minutes .. As far as sputering is concerned. It stilled had the miss AMLIFIED only after long driving and I had too lean it out only at idle around -5 %.
