Arming the factory alarm...
Ok, everyone that has a 7 with factory alarm that works... Let me know how your alarm arms.
Hop in your car and try this.
Turn key on, turn key off
press down drivers side interior lock (without opening the door first)
Did your alarm "arm"?
Mine will NOT arm this way. My door MUST be open when pressing
the drivers side lock to get the alarm to arm. Please try this out
and let me know. Mine works as followed...
Turn key on, turn key back off
OPEN a door (either door, as long as that doors dome light switch works)
Press the drivers side interior lock down to "lock"
Alarm will now activate and beep
Lift up on exterior handle, and shut the door.
The car is now locked, and the alarm beeps again letting you know the
system is "armed".
would everyone that has a working factory alarm check to see if you can arm your alarm without the door being open when you press the drivers interior door lock down? Let me know how your works... Thanks

Dome lights must work???
my factory alarm works (dome lights dont) and i STILL dont know how to make it work!!
and that feat exclusive to verts where the internal trunk release can be disabled ... cant figure it out....
ok, i *THINK* anytime my car alarm worked it was associated with me using the key on the trunk lock, does your car have power door locks?? cuz i know on my TII the power locks beep when used, i didnt think this armed the car ... my vert has no power locks and it does not beep when i push the lock down (why i dont think the beep means its armed)
i read the manual a few times on how to arm the car and have only armed it by fluke and cannot find a consistant procedure

When i open the door, and press down the drivers interior lock (power locks) the alarm will beep, and the security light will come on, and then start flashing fast(alarm is now activated). When i lift the outside door handle and shut the door the alarm will beep again, and then flash slowly. Alarm is now "armed".

ok, i realize that you hit the lock on the drivers side. But, sitting in your car, with both doors shut and you hit the drivers side lock, does the alarm turn on? Mine only does it when I FIRST open a door, then hit the drivers side lock...

Yes it only arms with the doors closed. Like he said. If you left the doors open does the alarm arm. NO You have to close the door. You just don't understand. And usually when a moderator closes a thread, you don't open another on eabout the person and the same situation. I'm sure this same topic has been covered atleast 2 times just like everything else, just certain people search once and call it a day instead of looking for it.

Yea but thats the common sense part. Unless you sleep in your car and want the alarm to go off when someone is trying to kill you. Also the only reason for having to left the handle is because for some reason the door lock pops back to unlock when the door is closed but that is not as noticeable for SOMEPEOPLE. LISTEN LISTEN LISTEN before you post.

Edit: also, I believe you have to lift the handle to verify that you're on the outside of the vehicle, to keep the alarm from going off at weird times while you're just in it.

I agree with you Houston that this thread is unnecessary... unless you have some extradimensional need to be able to lock your door, open it without unlocking it, and have your alarm be on... Personally my doors don't unlock when I shut the door locked w/ door handle down, but I just lock it with the key from outside every time (because my subaru does act that way and it's habbit). With both cars, when I lock with the key from the outside, unlocking with the key from the outside is the only way in w/o setting off the alarm (If I lock it inside, and shut it... the alarm will go off when I put my key in the driver's door), so I guess this doesn't really concern me too much.

i agree with the doors being open. my alarm will not arm unless the door gets opened first.
turn the car on then off
lock passengers door
open your door
lock your down
hold handle up from outside and close your door
look at the security light, it will be on, not blinking. the alarm will sound if you reach in your window and unlock the door without the key. it may take a minute or 2 to actually be armed though (in case you run back to your car real quick)
just watch the security light. once it goes on solid for about 10 seconds, then blinks every 5 seconds, your alarm is armed.
at least as far as i understand this is how the whole system works. ill give it a try on lunch break.

kontakt - "My point wasn't that Icemark was right, but that he was fairly harmlessly wrong"
Wrong is wrong!! it doesnt matter if he is telling me that my motor will run fine with 1 quart of oil in it, or if he is giving me wrong information on how my alarm works. I needed help, asked a question in the best way i knew how, and reasked it being more specific and never got the correct answer from him. Luckily, i have decent troubleshooting skills and ended up figuring it all out on my own... But unfortunately for the next guy having the same problem that will search for a fix, he will find that thread and get a bunch o' wrong information on how the alarm works. If he 100% relys on what someone else says *no troubleshooting skills* then his alarm would NEVER get fixed.
If someone with a 5 post count history gave the EXACT same replies to my questions that icemark did on the previous thread you wouldnt have said he was "harmlessly wrong". You would have said "BULLSHIT, Dont just guess how it works and post it as the answer!"
Icemark is getting his *** licked because the majority of the time he is right... and thats great, that is benificial to this forum. But unless your 100% sure your right when someone is trying to ask specific questions on how something works, stay out of the post!!! dont answer what you dont know!!
