anything i need to know before replacing oil pan gasket?

Whoever rebuilt the engine for the previous owner did somethign wired with the oil pan, and it's leaking. Are there any tricks or other things i need to know before replacing it? thanks.

Scrape all the old **** off of the pan and the bottom of the engine. If you use hylomar or RTV to put the new gasket on the pan, put it around each hole and make a continuous line from one hole to the other or it could drip out past the bolt holes.

be very carefull with those bolts holding the pan on, the strip very easily, but easily fixed with one of the other many 10mm bolts on our car, one of the ones that say 6 on them did it for me...

It's a major pain in the ***. You will be working on your back for 1.5 hours in a very uncomfortable position, trying to avoid crossthreading bolts which you cannot see nor reach with your hands. Frankly, next time I have to do it, I'm going to pull the engine and SAVE time.

Why are you using imperial tools on metric bolts? Thats going to round the head off pretty quick.

i am using metric tools, its a 10mm bolt.. but make sure you use a 1/4 rachet and not a 3/8 rachet because you will do what i did and snap the bolt..
