anyone running a stiffer wastegate spring?

is anyone running a stiffer spring in their stock wastegate actuator? i've got my car all nice and wideband tuned at 15psi on the t04b hybrid but i cant seem to get above 10psi in 1st and second gear... and i'm thinking a stiffer wastegate spring would help me with that.

anyone?

if you have a good boost controller it won't make any difference. the wastegate won't even see any pressure untill you hit the set amount.

scott is correct.

I havent's seen anyone using higher spring rate wastegate plunger things, but i have seen people crushing them down a lil for some pre-load.

interesting... i wonder why i hit 12psi in 3rd gear by like 8 or 9 in 2nd?

i bet this wastegate is creeping at every chance it gets and just doesnt have enough time to creep up in 1st and second... its even ported quite big

Somewhere else I remember reading someone with a massively ported wastegate having the valve being blown open and resulting in a lazy boost build..His solution was to add a spring to the actuator arm to help keep it closed. He mentioned the spring was just light enough that the diaphram actuator wasn't affected much trying to fight the spring...seems like an easy thing to try.

It's not about time, it's about load. The car has more load on it as you shift to larger gears. This is why you can't mak boost free-revving the car in neautral...there is no load on the motor/turbo. My stock 'gate is still creeping even after the port (though it wasn't a monster port at all). I'll toss in the profec B spec II one of these days and see what happens since I'm curious as to what effect a nice new modern stepper motor has on wastegate control (likly none). A monster 'gate port is for later on...

Right now, I make about 7 psi in first, 10 psi in second and 12 psi in third. I actively don't run 4th WOT since it will hit about 13.8 psi but it's not very hard...I shouldn't be WOT in 4th on the street anyway now should I

Thankfully, the rtek 1.7 ECU is tuned for 12 psi

Nice input from the noob. I saw that post too, the wastegate was being opened by the pressure pushing on the gate itself, not what the actuator was seeing, so a boost controller wouldn't help if that is the case.
