Anyone with Pacesetter cat-back......
Well, I know I cant be the only one out there with a pacesetter cat-back
Truthfully most parts of it seem really nice, it seems very well built and sounds good, nice and deep. So no badmouthing!
Anyway, I had to cut my Y-pipe apart to adjust the angle slightly, because when I put my header on, it was at too harsh of an angle and the flanges wount mate perfectly, causing an exhaust leak... OK, now to my point. I cut the Y-pipe apart right at the "Y" to adjust the angle, and saw that the flow there was restricted hideously. The two pipes that came together to form the Y were not trimmed properly, and were bottlenecking down to about 1.5" !!!. So I ground out all the access metal so that it is no longer like that, and it seems like it will flow nice and smooth now. Just thought Id share with anyone else who has this cat-back, might be worth the time to do.. I attached a pic trying to describe what Im talking about.

i had it on my old 87', it was a good sound, i really liked it. it was built kinda crappy though. i have a custom built 2.25 dynomax catback on my 91 n/a now. its higher pitched but flows very very well. hey i see on your mods list you have a superchips ecu...tell me what you think about its performance gains and did it give you better gas milage, im looking to either get a SAFC or get an upgraded ecu soon.

I think maybe they redid the cat-back, because Ive heard from a few people that had itm and from what they describe mine seems different. The quality seems very good, and the fit is nice. As far as the ECU goes, I got mine used for pretty cheap, if I had to choose between this and a S-AFC, id go with the S-AFC. The gains were noticable, especially in the higher gears. I didnt notice an improvement in milage, but i dont really pay that much attention to it anyways.

wow you guys like pace setter? **** I had the catback on my 89 GTU with the pace setter header, lemme tell you coffee can sound to the max! Deep tone? are we talking about the same thing? Also look in the mufflers if you ever detatch them they have like a 1.5in ID with holes, and there angled. Needless to say pace setter is about as good as or worse than stock parts......

Pace Setter Parts
are about the worst mods you can get for your car, I got a header and stainless cat-back for my old turbo impulse and the exhaust rusted out...kinda ironic but the welds were poor leading to failure.
The coating on the header burned off right after installation, it was black but that coating burned off after 1 run...leaving bare iron on the headers..which proceeded to rust as well.
waste of money, never ever buy PaceSetter stuff.

dont get black get the ceramic coated you just took the cheap way out.... you get what you pay for...if you are one of those "wish i had kind" then a pacesetter is a perfect replacement because its not that expensive and its a 1off of the quality stuff.... Yes it is not that great but it would do if you had no other choice...

Yea, Ive heard that the header is ****, but I like my cat-back. Ive had it on for almost 2 years, and I bought it used ( I was poor...) and all of the black coating is still on. It is not showing any signs of rust, and the sounds is pretty deep. (deeper than most others Ive heard). Like I said I think they may have redone it, becuase mine is not nearly as bad as most people say. Anyway, the point of this was to inform people of some restriction in the Y-pipe, not to argue whether or not Pacesetter sucks.

The header tubes are not equal length, the flanges are too thin, the tubes are too thin, the welds couldn't hold a cardboard box together, the pipes on the catback are about the size of a drinking straw, the Y pipe looks like it was made by Ray Charles, the mufflers fit crooked, and they sound like someone pissing in a 55 gallon drum. Not to mention the tips look silly on a second generation.
I've had both the header and the catback. Both are out in a landfill somewhere now.

Well arent we bitter
Hehe. Seriosly though, the catback is of descent quality, the Y-pipe design is nice (except for the shitty cutting job as described above), and the piping is a nice 2.5" flaring down to 2.25" before the mufflers. Probably not the greatest on a turbo car, but on a N/A it is just fine. Ill take a few pics of it and post them up, maybe mine is different than what you had, I dunno  Im not saying that pacesetter stuff is awesome or anything, just saying that it isnt nearly as bad as most think. If I had money at the time I wouldve gone for something different, but it has lasted very long, with no signs of corrosion, and seems to be built OK. Just my $.02
P.S. Isnt pacesetter Ferrari's aftermarket line???

My sisters boyfriend has a pacesetter catback on his 2000 cougar. I sounds good but he was driving down the road about six months after he got it and one of the tips just fell off. Quality stinks, we looked at the pipe the tip fell offf of and it was all rusted and falling apart.

Those people don't have too much knowledge (j/k) if they think those 2 companies even remotely talk to each other. They actually used to make ovens for my pizza store (I managed a few dominos for a while), I thought that was kinda ironic (and yes it was the same company i did research), which pretty much counted them out for ever getting my performance dollars (the oven also broke a lot...).
