Anyone here using a street/strip clutch with over 300rwhp?
I am wondering if a street/strip clutch can handle street and strip use.. Act does sell a street/strip clutch set that can handle like 440ft/lbs a torque, and I was wondering if it could take the abuse, i don't really want to get into a copper discs/unsprung hubs.... If it can't I will just get their 6puck setup...

It depends on the application. Is your car a daily driver. If so, then any clutch your going to get is going to wear out in a couple of years anyway. I have a centerforce Dual Friction clutch in my 1990 GTU. I have had it for around two years, and I can tell that there is a little wear but it is not that bad. I would recommend it.

Not as many people have heard of them, but I've always used RPS carbon fiber clutches. They wear extemely well ( I had the same clutch traded in and out of Four rx-7's over a 4 year period and it still works flawlessly) I'm very hard on clutches, and like to lauch with higher rpm's and slower engagment to avoid the tranny killer clutch drop. After countless times down the strip it never slipped and never lost any bite. I've had one in a lightly modded 3rd gen for about a year with 300 fly HP and drove it nearly every day, it has a very nice engagement like a stock clutch, with only about a 20% increase in pedal( which I like a little firmer) . They use a rubber sprung disc, and since its carbon fiber, super low weight, it shifts ultra fast. They cost around $350 to $450 depending on the year of RX. After talking to a RPS direct, they say the clutch is capable of handling up to 650+ horsepower!! I've driven a friend car with ACT and the pedal was Waaaay to stiff for me. I highly recommend RPS or Clutch Masters.

Hmm, I wonder what model ACT he had. Cause mine does not seem stiff at all to me... infact my Bone stock 99 V6 5 Speed Dodge Dakota clutch is twice as stiff as my RX7's ACT clutch.

Yeah, you guys should do more leg workouts. I have the Xtreme PP and Street disk. Way more stiff than stock, but doesn't seem as bad as some of the super duty Ford trucks I've driven. ACT all the way. I had the same setup on my old AWD talon and that thing would run high 11's.

Yeah, my statement may not be fair to ACT. It was in a 89 civic si hatchback, with a j-spec B-16a DOHC. The only thing that got me was his is the street/ strip version, and wasnt even a 6 or 3 puck. Just organic. And dont get me wrong, I like stiff clutches but this thing was extremely stiff, and if you let off from the floor just one cm, it would engage. But like I said, this may not be fair, and the stupid civic was a cable clutch. Not hydro like the superior RX-7's haha. The only thing I didnt like about ACT the most was when I called them for info about a clutch for my FD3s, they only offer a stock disc with a heavier pressure plate, and then go to the 6 puck and 3 puck non-sprung gear crushers. I'm always against a stock disc with more clamping force, it seems like reverse engineering you know? And I shy away from non-sprung discs due to the shock load. Clutch master seems to be able to handle the same HP levels and have a sprung full face kevlar type disc that is tough as nails. The same goes for RPS, the carbon fiber disc does not transmit any heat, and wears very very well. I've tore down Two customers Turbo FC's with the 6 puck ACT's and only after about 25,000 miles they both were worn into the rivets, and the flywheel looked very badly grooved by it. While I've had a RPS pushing over 50,000 and is barely worn, and the flywheel is in excellent shape with only a few burn marks from the type of driver I am. But everyone had their favorite. I'd still like to try out a Ogura ( or however you spell it) twin disc setup from japan

my ACT "heavy PP" was 50% lighter then my old stock one... new is better then old
