lmfao, a little bit my fault, a lotta bit not my fault

OK, so the reason my car is a total ******* before warmed up is because it has some sort of tar (I heard it was stock mazda airbox sealant which confuses me, but it is about 15 years old although the filter is new) and it was all up in my airbox, and seeped down into my AFM and clogged the hell out of it, when juts starting up.
Sometimes it wouldn't start without me holding in the gas pedal a little bit and then holding it for about 5 seconds.
Sometimes it would start but after the starter jump, it would stick at 3k RPM until i tapped the gas 2-3 times.
Sometimes after this, it would have severe hesitations, 2 or 3 real "hiccups" when just starting to move when in low RPMs and not warmed up fully.

That tar is a real mean ************

Now how I killed the AFM is that I didn't notice the pin clip and just removed the screws and pulled, and pulled off the two soldered joints too, and the rest where pluggable but the soldered where still fucked. I could scrape off all of the silicone sealant off of the screws and stuff, open up the airbox and resolder it and remove all of the tar. But that may fail some day so hell nah! I decided that I could hopefully find a used AFM and just get a K&N filter to replace my gummed up airbox.

I was trying to de-tar my AFM and airbox, but failed, heh. And it's worth the money if I can find a AFM that someone has lying around, than to take like 10 hours on some dumbass tar, and then just change to a K&N filter later on.

heres a picture for everyone

banzai, i'll read it and reply to you via PM, thanks

Node get a nice big tool box, and when you go to pull of the AFM just slip it in the tool box and tell the guys you didnt find what you wanted. A REALLY cheap AFM.

Node, get the hell off the grass and onto a workbench! That’s no place for working on a car!
And that junkyard AFM looks very broken, that's probably why it's cheap. Get one in one piece. Or did you do that...

I learned my lesson with the grass :\
And I broke the connector on the AFM, but the tar inside it was the problem, and I got the car like that.
I found a AFM (in one piece tar free) and I'm going to get a K&N cone filter and make a cold air box out of aluminum. Or try to at least
She should be running very nicely on saturday. I wish I had a video camera so I could show you guys my STOCK RX-7, well, stock for a little bit

I think hes saying to take a large tool box with you to a junkyard, and then just slip the thing in the toolbox and say that you didnt find what you needed.

oh, lol, he confused the hell outta me, but the guy whos grabbing it for me and some other parts said it should only be $5-$10, although its not marked so it might be under miscellaneous ($3)
So its cheap no matter what
And I'm grabbing other goodies for my car too. Like strut tower speaker covers, and 2 "PUSH" pins that go on the radiator duct before the fan duct/guard, and a door handle if its not too hard to get off (because mines broken :-\

That tar is the mysterious "black oil" from the X-Files!
Don't get it in your eyes! You'll never get it out!

At least you didn't get that stuff in your engine right? I have had many a conversation on the cold air box out of aluminum and the best thing people have refered me to is a high impact plastic. They say it doesn't stay or get as hot as the metal. Just something to think about.
Good luck,
Charles

thanks for the tip pacemaker, erm, peacekeeper.
It's caused by the foamrubber gasket/seal on the airfilter, it pretty much melts into this ****.
So I'll see what happens, for not its getting another stock AFM and airbox, ill get a cone filter goin sometime.
