any one knows what is the benefit of

removing old(over a year possible) gas from tank, and refill with fresh gas before start a rebuilt engine? how does it help to smooth the fresh rebuilt engine runs.

sounds like silly, but just want to know. I know old gas makes no differences to a used engine, a JDM engine at least.

thanks

Couldn't hurt... It wouldn't be a very auspicious start to a new engine's life if you run old gas through it. The engine may remember it's trauma at birth and come back in a vengeful and explosive way during a stop light battle with the Civic nation.

Old gas...as in really OLD gas smells like turpentine and won't even run your lawnmower.

Over a year old??? I'd purge every bit of it from the tank to the outlet to the engine.

The gasolene formulations of 15 years ago would store for months.
Today's gas starts to break down after weeks.
I was lucky on the '91 I just bought. It had been driven less than 2900 miles since '98, but the gas was less than a year old. I filled it with fresh gas & a double shot of injector cleaner. After about 15 minutes of rough idle, it smoothed out OK.

In harsh climates (such as ones that see snow all winter) it is highly recommended to drain and clean the gas tank once every couple of years. You would be amazed at what build up can be found in an 2 year old gas tank.

If it's that old, trust me, it's not even really gas anymore. I had to do this to a 928 that had been sitting in a body shop for about 8 months. Took about 3 full tanks to get it running smoothly.
