Any good painters out there?
I want to paint the Vert red metallic, but I am kinda confuse on the process
I understand the prepping but I am having problems with the next few steps.
Do u paint 2 coats of red and do a rub out and then mix metal flake in the next coat
or do you mix the flake with the clear coat?
Do you do the rub out before or after the clear coat?

Painting
Typically, now days you can get red metallic with it premixed into the paint that is single stage (no need for clear coat). There is a pretty good thread that is in the archives about painting and the steps it takes. As it goes for coats: I just painted my car yesterday actually. It was the second day of painting. I ended up with 5 coats of paint on the car total. The painting process took 2 days and this was without clear, just base. I put 2 coats on the first day, let it dry and then wet sand. The second day I put 3 coats on. Now I will begin the clear coating. If you do paint your car yourself, it is all in the prep work. My advice would be to take your time with prepping.

Premix always. Adding the flake in CAN give you an uneven look. The last car I did the guy was adiment about having the flake added in afterwards and it came out looking like ****. Ended up having to do it again.

my paint came premixed. just shake/stir it up really good and add 1/4? reducer. pour and paint. always spray a tack coat. i only sprayed 1 thick coat of paint on both of my cars simply because it came out so well i didnt want to risk it messing up by adding another coat. if it starts to crack apart and seperate/drip from adding too much paint your screwed.

BTW to answer your other question....
if it comes in a kit where you have to mix the paint and metallic, mix a bit if metallic in with the color. paint it with metallic from the start. i guess you could mix clear coat with metallic... but i would leave it clear. youll definately be able to see the metallic shimmering through the clear coat without mixing up a metallic clear coat.
as for the wet sand question. ive never wet sanded between coats. i always let it flash dry before a new coat. meaning let it set for 25-30 minutes untill its "dry" or tacky. the next coat of paint will adhere to the flash coated paint as long as its a bit sticky, but not wet.

you wont find that exact color in a single stage premix. go to www.duplicolor.com and check out their 1 gallon cans of paint. good stuff for the money.
