Any on you raced in a circuit track, and race against an evo or sti. I'm planning to join next summer to NASA up here in the northeast. Reason for all of this is that my cousin is planning to get an evo and we are going to do the circuit racing next yr and I would like to alway be a step a head of him.

.... circuit racing.. i heard thats more about driver than anything else... i can be wrong. but i wouldnt think you would be too far off from an evo after basic mods.

Definitely, circuit racing and road racing is about the driver. A driver that's scared to corner at high speed isn't going to make it in these type of races. Don't get me wrong, it takes a decent driver on the 1/4 mile drag, but a driver without fear and good throttle control will do well on a circuit course. And it's true, a TII with mild mods will pull an Evo. There's so many people out there that underestimate TII's it's unbelieveable. Apparently FD's are the only fast RX-7's made...

Streetported 13BT
Turbonectics Compressor Housing with Stock Turbine
Earls Top Mount Intercooler
3" Downpipe w/Cat delete pipe leading to single 3" cat-back to 4" muffler
Stock primaries 660cc secondarys
Shortram intake
Koyo Radiator
Exedy Clutch with 6 puc disc
All emissions gone
10.3mm spark plug wires
Walbro Fuel Pump

All this with about 7.5lbs of boost, don't have the stand alone fuel management system to compinsate for boost yet, but I beat one that had intake, cat-back exhaust and a fancy BOV (lol) by 5 lengths in 1/4 so to answer your question YES they are beatable

stock evos are slow i have driven them and my rx7 lays waste to them stock they are nothing special.. they are fun in 1st and 2nd gear after that they blow donkey. modded than watch out. on the track it takes less effort to drive a evo fast. so an evo can make the driver...... a badass driver can do very well in a stock evo mod it and anyone is close to the fastest

The previous owner of my car (NA with 190k miles at the time) would take it out to Porsche track meets and whip up on unsuspecting 944 owners. He would outrun trailered in track cars not uncommonly. He also circuit races motorcycles, so he doesn't have much fear I guess.....

Also, don't Evo's run about a 14 in the 1/4? Because thats not really that fast. I think a stock TII ran mid 14's, so with even small mods (fuel and a boost controller) you can take them if you are a good driver.

They can be great cars, but the potential is untapped stock, at least from a straight line point of view. Out of the box the handling is simply amazing, though.

They are excellent handling cars out the factory, and even more so with r-comps and suspension. Only thing is, they're very easy to drive fast, fast, as in on a circuit.

+1 They do a great job thru the cones too.

There are 2 evos with R comps and konis that tear up AS in my region. They kill my TII (SM2) even when factoring in the 2 sec tire advantage (still Azenis for me while I'm learning). (also, both drivers a MUCH better than me)

My fc is a slow fat pig, but my old FB walked on built Mustangs, a 996, and STi's. Never got to play with an Evo though... It was a built ported s513bt blowing through a weber in a stripped FB.

Ok, I'm a mitsu owner as is.... I hate the damn evo's.... will never in my life own one... i have a Galant.... 2006 model 4cy that can throw down and keep pace with an evo... non turboed... the only thing those cars were built for is cicuit racing... they aren't drag strip cars.... though the AWD helps them a bit there and the suspension setup helps with 0 to go launches.... they are all in all terrible cars. When a 4 door family sedan can keep pace with a "sport" car such as that, it's rather disappointing. *shrug*

I'll test my TII against one when i am done building it.

Yep, next year I'm shooting for Bigger turbo, injectors, FMIC, and exhaust. I already have suspension and the microtech =).

I'm gonna see how much HP I can squeeze out of my stock setup with the microtech, with Steve Kan at the helm, looks like alot of fun!
