Another TPS question

87 TII.
I set my TPS idle at 1.0 ohm and the WOT was at 4.79 which is pretty close to what it's supposed to be.

When I open the throttle it goes to 4.79 but when I release the throttle it takes time for the ohms to drop down to 1.0.
Sometimes it stays high then after awhile before it goes back down.

**Is the TPS supposed to drop imediately to 1.0 when you release the throttle to idle position. I would think so.

My idle does the same thing as the TPS does, sometime it takes a while for the idle to drop down. Thats why I think the problem is related.

Maybe your TPS is sticking and slowly coming back down....take off your intercooler and push in the plunger on your TPS and see if it comes back out easily or very slowly like its sticking. If it sticks replace your TPS or maybe spray some electrical safe lubricant in the TPS but I'm not sure if this will harm it at all.

Check to see if the dashpot is adjusted correctly.

I dont think thats the problem.
The TPS is pushed back in by the linkage. I can see the TPS is back to the idle position, but the reading doesn't come down right away. It will stay high for a while then eventually drop to around 1 ohm.

So the resistance should come down to 1 omh right when it's at idle position, correct?

Or do the omhs float for a moment on your guys TPS when releasing throttle also?

I'll check the dashpot.

But does anyone know about how the ohms should drop?

Hold the throttle wide open with the meter hooked up, then push in on the TPS plunger. I'm sure you'll see the rapid drop. As Ted stated, chech the dashpot as that will hinder the rapid return of the throttle.

Is does drop rapidly from 4.79 at WOT.

But it stops around 1.2 or so then drops from there slowly.
