Another starter problem/ engine hesitation thread...
Well, I just want to get an idea of what I need to do. I've read a bunch over the years but am just double checking that this is probably a ground issue.
86 base/sport na stock other then header and exhaust. (no pwr steering, no abs, no cruise ctrl, no ac from factory)
I have the classic click no start symptom sometimes. it will also crank slowly 2 or 3 turns and then make a grinding noise sometimes but thats about 10% of the time and the no click is probably 40% of the time. it gets worse during hot starts and multiple starts in a short time period (i.e. stopping at a few stores for 20 minutes here and there). usually starts up fine in the morning after sitting all night.
also, the other day my car acted like the spark plug wires were arcing a bit but it went away in 10 seconds (not a hesitation, more of a spark not firing feeling). the next day it had an obvious hesitation in traffic accelerating slowly in 2nd gear. like you shut the car off for a split second and turn it back on. this happened twice and hasn't again for 3 days but the starter problem persists. Sound like a grounding problem? I had the starter rebuilt 2 years ago and have only driven 25,000 miles in that time. I have yet to do anything but first things will be cleaning all connections on the starter, getting it tested, and cleaning the ecu ground and block ground. Sound like a good place to start because the hesitation makes me think its ground issue which is whats wrong with the starter.
