It's beyond me.

Didn't somebody say (either in this thread or one of the links offered) that they had a problem with a wandering TPS and they fixed it by stretching the spring a little?

Another thought - when was the last time your ECU was checked for cold solder points and dead/damaged components? Why not pull it and have it checked now? If there's nothing wrong with it you're just out a few $ and if there is, well, maybe that'll be the end of your prob...

Another guy who has the same problems as I has already replaced the ecu as well as tested it. I replaced mine a while ago and then I pulled it out and tested it when I fixed the BAC portion which I no longer use. I'll look at the TPS thing though. Thanks for the suggestion.

Sanman and I talked about everything we thought it could be and split it all up and now we're no farther ahead. There was a brief moment of triumph when my ASV tested bad but it turns out you have to have the leads plugged into the multimeter (imagine that..duh). Tonight I checked the neutral switch, 5th gear switch, variable resistor (but I have yet to ever set it) and ASV. When I pulled the ASV off it tested at 18.5. I think Im just going to block it off b/c its apparently not helping with my hot start problem anyway so F' it. One less thing to worry about.

The only things strange about it are that 1) the contact surface was covered in oil and I have no oil anywhere else in the manifold. 2) when I blow in the smaller hole it feels like there is a diaphram in there and its leaking past it. I havent tried running the car without it yet. 3) I dont see an adjust screw on it as described in the FSM.

Keep the good suggestions coming please.

Ok Im all bewildered and crap so I was sitting here blowing in the small hole on the ASV and I put my finger over the big hole and I could still blow air into the ASV at the same rate...slow but steady...Where is the air going?

Here is another relevant thread Ive found. I wish these threads had conclusions - Thats why Im trying to keep my progress here for other people with the same problem:

blocking off the ASV seemed to have helped the car idle on its own faster in the morning I thought the problem was fixed until it warmed up...bah

Also, the Variable resistor only affects the idle when you turn it almost to full lean.

The car still wont hot start and runs like complete crap when its cold (backfires, etc). I replaced the thermosensor but is there a good way to test it to see if its good other than putting it in hot water?
