Am I the only one who likes the looks of a stock 2nd Gen?

Seems like everyone is hootin and holerin about front end this side skirts that ho hum. I like the factory front end and side skirts and the rear is just perfect. Everyone needs to just think about what thier bodykit is going to look like in 5 years after it gets outdated. The stock bodywork will never be outdated because it is stock bodywork and ages with the rest of the car. Body kits are usually added to modernize a car, but in my mind kits just steal away the real beauty of the original design. To me adding a body kit is like swapping for a V8, you just took the rx-7 and made it into something it's not. Don't get me wrong, I likes the looks of some of the kits and if you add it for function like a FMIC, or wide body, then o.k.; but a bodykit just for the sake of looks is a mistake (IMO).

I did not buy a bomex RX-7, I did not but a c-west RX-7; I did not buy a border RX-7; I bought a MAZDA RX-7 and I respect the design choices MAZDA made.

I have to agree with you. I really like the way a stock 2nd generation looks. Preferrably a 89-91 though.

Racing Beat set land speed records with stock bodywork, so aerodynamics are not an issue.

no your not...

I love the styling of the second gen.

I have had some people even ask me if my car is a 2001 model, when I tell them that it is a 1989 RX-7 with well over 170,000 miles on it, they nearly **** themselves

I wouldn't change the styling ever...only thing that I am going to do is find me some mud flaps, my rx-7 parts magazine never came in...arrrg!!!

I only think the 2nd gen looks okay. However, I think most body kits look really stupid, so in comparision stock is far better. If you like body kits you should see some of the terrific ones they have for Civics. Not to mention the stickers.

I think the 89-91 style is a more modern and enduring design. I especially like the barely-noticeable side skirts found on the series 5 TII's, combined with the agressive lower lip spoiler. Throw on some nice 17's and you've got yourself a car!

I'm not a big fan of kits. There are a few that I like, though. Namely Mode 6 Mariah and that yellow wide-fendered car that Node posted a while back. I realize they detract from the stock look of the car, but sometimes that's what you want.

There is something to be said for having a rather plain-looking (by today's standards) car showing taillights to you, though, especially those super-sexy series 5 ones...

I have an 87 and the bodykit I'm gonna get is:

Stock 89-91 front bumper
Stock 89-91 rear bumper
Stock 89-91 mouldings

Then I'll be all bodykitted out.

You are correct in stating that the FC looks great stock. I will, in fact, add a new front end sometime, and also a turbo hood from a TII, though. I just think that there are a few things that will make it look better. Nothing wrong with that in my opinion. These things will, in fact, have to wait until the engine, etc. suits my fancy :-) , but will be done sometime or another regardless.

PEACE,
Derek

i like the stock looks except the stock wheels, almost all the stock wheels on FCs are really ugly in my opinion. when i get an RX-7 (soon i hope) i plan to add nice wheels (for performance and looks), lower it a bit, a stock style rear spoiler if it doesn't have one, and maybe add a front lip just to make the front a little more aggressive looking. other than that it will stay stock looking, well i might get wider front fenders, but they don't really look all that different just a little wider.

Seems like there are actualy some other people out there that see a great design and spend spend there hard earned money on parts that make that well designed beauty go faster.

I will add that if you have already maxed out the performance on your car and you just can't stop modding it then your addiction is just enough reason to add a body kit.

I like that yellow body, it has a FC on 'roid rage look except for the spoiler and that spoiler looks good in my opinion.

I love the BBS wheels on GTUs and Verts, if they only made them in 17"s and possibly a bit wider, I would use those forever. I think they look great. No paint, no polishing, just the stock BBS wire rims.

Some kits are nice, but a clean stock FC looks great in my opinion,(even the 86-88). The only part I'm going to change on my car are the spoiler, wheels, and headlights.

Yo,

Samps, I'm finally glad someone posted this thread. I've had my 1989 RX-7 2 years now, and I haven't gotten tired looking at it. I /love/ the agressive stock front of the 1989-1991, it's the forerunner to all the combat kits that are around today. The rear tailights are the best ever made.

And what's with people not liking the FTP lenses? Yeah, they get condensation in 'em, but they're cool looking. You don't see 'em on the 944 do you? No, no you don't. See! We've got original styling. *wink*

But in all honesty, the only thing I've though about changing is my rear wing. Either getting rid of it all together, or getting a Mazdaspeed one. It's this one:

http://www.thepartstrader.com/single...0&adnum=230060

All in all, I still dig my cars styling. The other thing I'm thinking of doing is getting some white Volks SE37K's in 17 x 7.5. I think that'd look pretty cool as well.

Bodykits don't give you a different car....they just modify the look of your car....when I see a rx-7, even with a bodykit, I know it's a rx-7. When the bodykits get so crazy that you can't tell what kind of car it is, that's wrong. Just my opinon.

I think stock FCs are sexy as hell. I wouldn't be all about changing the appearence of mine if I had one, either.

When you are ready to change, I might be intersted in your stock wing.
