Am I getting screwed? It sure does feel like it...

to both of you the answer is no.
the rotor gears do not have to be timed, the stat gear simply acts as a rotor position holding fixture keeping it from smacking the rotor housings and to make it spin as it turns.
to the poster of the thread, i still think it is a mount problem, probably ripped a mount during the hard accel and/or shift.

Whew!!
I got a call from Mazda Direct today, Karack and everyone else, you were absolutely correct. They said the tranny mounts were shot, she'll be done tomorrow. I really don't know what to think of the CRC guy, but I do know that he won't be seeing me again! Thanks a lot everyone!!

As far as actually "timing" them. The ellipse on the eshaft that the rotor spins on keeps the rotors 180 degrees offset. There is no way for them to move to any more or any less away from the other rotor.
Check out www.rotaryengineillustrated.com for a better illustration of what I'm talking about, but that's it in a nutshell
Bing - Well, you got lucky. Glad everything worked out in the end.. ( I realize you're new, so I'll just tell you now, that line is a forum Cliche). In all honesty, there is no reason to worry about revving that high. I know a lot of people here use that as a shift indicator Search for "Italian tuneup" for more information

yea rev the **** out of her. . lol jk, well i've never had any problems with revs. I consitatly bring my streetported n/a to 8500, where the fuel cut comes on. I can't imagin stripping a stat gear. . . Glad it was just a mount.

Sorry I got in on this a little late, but I know for a fact that if the stationary gear teeth "strip", she'll lock up within one rotor revolution. Has anyone ever tried to turn the engine without the rear stationary gear installed? I (accidentally) did during my first rebuild. She locked up within 1/2 a turn, and wouldn't budge either way after that (I didn't want to force it, lol).
I guess I'm posting this more for future reference, so no one else will ever try this

you gotta consider hes prolly including motor removal/install. most shops charge like 800$ for removal, but only 600$ for rebuild labor somehow..
edit: didnt read last post.
i wouldve thought motor mount.

Just the tranny mounts are done? Heh, I broke those like the first time I drove my car and it doesn't shake too bad...
Unless you're just being really sensitive.
I'd worry about the engine mounts too.
Anyway, that "warning buzzer" is more of a "You should shift now, you're not making any more power here.." buzzer.... I hit it all the time... if you really want to know your revs are probably at like 8k when the tach says 9 anyway.

that quote doesn't make any sense.... it costs ~$600 in parts alone to rebuild a motor not including hard parts failures.

Sensitive? I read a post on a thread about a similar problem and the guy said the vibration was so bad his girlfriend could get off. I think that is a fairly accurate description. As far as the motor mounts, the shop said they look fine.

Reading the thread I could find no one that asked if the car still shifts ok. I've seen clutch discs come apart and cause bad vibrations.
I once had a Borg and Beck pressure plate break. The pressure ring was in 5 pieces. It stayed under the cover thankfully. The clutch shop set the finger height too high and the springs went into coil bind and broke the plate.

I know this shop very well, and he used to be good. Now, hes ******* NUTS! I lived behind his shop last summer (he has a house on the property, and I'm best friends with his son, who is a good guy), and I put up with his bullshit all summer. Comes in the house when we arent there, makes us work in the gravel in the winter (even his own son)... bible freak (the jesus hates all and everyone goes to hell cult).... etc.
Before I knew about his "malpractices" I recommended a friend to bring his car to him. $5000 for a BASIC rebuild!!!!!!!!!! This was a simple tear down, replace springs, seals, gaskets, and USED rotor housings. He used a spark plug to plug a vacuum leak, a piece of wood (paint stir) to space the primary fuel rail from the block (WHY????), and loosely tightened all the intercooler piping which later popped off under moderate boost. Oh yeah, he halved the warrenty because the car was high performance: Street port and a front mount intercooler (seems like a safety mod more than a performance mod to me).
DOUCHE BAG!! DONT TAKE WORK TO HIM!!! TELL HIM WHAT A DOUCHE HE IS!!!
