Alternator belt replacement
My alternator belt on my 90' vert was loose and recently snapped and I was wondering if there is any how-to's on how to replace it? I tried searching, but didnt find anything. Sorry if its a stupid question, but I want to make sure I know what im doing before I work on the car. Thanks!

well i know on my turbo 2( should be about the same) you need to remove the belt for power steering first , release the 17mm nut for the tensioner pulley then loosen the top 10mm bolt, get that belt out of hte way then your going to have to route the new belt around the fan( can be a little trickey), get everything aligned up and tightened down, run it for 5min, then retension the belt, very very easy job to do

I have an S4 but I'm pretty sure it applies to your situation as well. The alternator belt is closest to the engine so all the other belts need to be moved first. The air pump has two bolts where one is in the bracket below the pump to adjust the tension and the bolt on top to change the pivot angle of the pump. The A/C belt needs to be loosened as follows. The pulley that is in a bracket has a large bolt running right through the pulley and this bolt needs to be loosened to allow the pulley to drop lower so the belt is loose enough to remove. Same thing applies with the power steering belt if you have that on your car. The alternator has two bolts like the air pump where one is the pivot bolt and the other is the adjustment bolt located in the bracket for tension purposes. It is probably best to replace all belts at one time but that is your call. The belts all can snaked over the fan so that is not a problem.
When putting the alternator belt on there are tension guidelines in the FSM for it and others as well. When the new alternator belt is on and you want to tension it correctly you might be able to do as I did. On my car there is a bracket/flange right behind the alternator which has a circular hole at the top which faces the front of the car. Place a long enough screw driver under the alternator and through the hole in the bracket being careful not to stick it into too far because there may be something breakable behing the flange. Once in place pull up on the screwdriver and you will be able to lift it and tighten the belt sufficiently enough and with the free hand ratchet the adjustment bolt first then the pivot bolt and check for proper belt tension.
Then reinstall the other belts. As far as the A/C belt and power steering belts are concerned you could place a screw driver underneath the pulleys and through the slot in the brackets to use the leverage to pull the pulleys upward to create the proper tension and then tighten the large bolt going through the pulley.
