alt acting up

my alt. is acting up after hard driving. it just falls on its face but after 5-6 minutes its fine goes back to normal. what gives? i am on my second alt. and i still have this problem. is there a fix or am i just stuck with this?

Define hard driving? On the track, or just going fast around town? I know with a lot of high RPM driving the alternator can be overspun, but I've only heard of racers having that kind of problem.

if i make 4-5 pulls or a couple laps of a auto-x course it will start acting up. i have underdrive pulleys on the car so i doubt it is over spining. any other ideas?
