Almost Stalling - Ideas?

I've noticed something a bit strange with my non-turbo FC and I'd like to see what everyone thinks about this.

First the car runs fine, and even seems to idle fine with and without the A/C on. However if i'm running the car with the A/C on and say come off the highway onto an exist and depress the clutch and totally unload the engine the rpms will dive bomb down to what must be only a couple of hundred RPMs and then quickly recover. This doesnt seem to happen when not runnig the AC. I'm not getting any belt noise associated with this either.

Its very hot here and a quick google search turned up the idea that maybe this is related to an alternator going south. With an otherwise normal idle does this sound correct?

The BAC is supposed to monitor additional air flow with the engine under an additional load, like the A/C running. If the BAC is stuck that's not good. Check it and if necessary unstick it by running carb cleaner through it.

I'm not familiar with the acronym BAC. Can someone shed some light on this so I can locate this in the service manual? Thanks --m

Bypass Air Control valve. Look in the FSM under the Fuel / Emissions section. You might have to remove the BAC valve to test it and clean it out but it's not a major undertaking.
