all t2's have Sunroof/moonroof?
Hey everybody, quick question. Is there anyone with a t2 that doesn't have a sunroof/moonroof? I don't think i've ever seen one without one. I personally wont want one when i start looking for a t2 so i was just wondering if there was any hope for me in my quest- I guess i'll just have to weld the hole shut-lol

Yes. They ALL have them. If you don't want one, you gotta do what I'm trying to do, swap a TII setup in an NA body w/o a sunroof. Let me tell you now, just finding a body without a sunroof is a pain in the ***. I'd just forget about it, unless you're building a track/autocross car, and even then, I'm having my doubt about this swap. =P

Only the *BASE* base RX-7's and the GTUs had no sunroof - that's it.
If you're building one for a race car, it wouldn't be hard to remove the whole sunroof rail assembly and fab some brackets to locate the sunroof panel properly.
Swapping a T2 into a base with no sunroof is a chore - been there, done that. But, if you could find a wrecked T2 and a no-sunroof NA with a blown motor, both for cheap, that's a possibility. But, you're gonna get your hands dirty swapping 'em out - there's a LOT of differences.

Thats what i thought
Thanks for the info guys, i figured that it was hopless, like i said, never having seen one. I'll just have it welded shut i guess @_@' Its funny how all these potential supercars come with flimsy(t-tops) or heavy(sunroof) factory roofing. The t2 has the mandatory sunroof, the 91-93 mr2 turbo only came with tops except a rare few(same with the 88-89 mr2 supercharged for that matter), the 90-96 300zxTT it was t-tops, the 2nd gen DSM turbo's its a sunroof.... The fd and the 1st gen DSM's (and maybe the 93+ supra?) are the only ones that don't have mandatory flimsy roofing...

No sunroof in my '87 base model. Man these cars are weird..it seems like everyone has a different combination of features, nothing like what had "supposed" to be sold by Mazda. I have phone dial rims, no sun roof, power brakes and steering...i guess its a typical base..I think the car is pretty light and it seems fast. Engine runs great with 125,000 miles on it, 15000 put on my be since I bought it in January. I love RX-7s. Anyone live near Harrisburg, Pa? I want a turbo II.

J-spec models could be had with a fixed roof.
What would be neat would be to cut all of the crap out and instead of welding in sheetmetal, just blend in some fiberglass or carbon fiber sheet. Get more headroom and make it just a fraction lighter than sheetmetal

A very important inch if you are tall or drive with a helmet on (any sort of sanctioned legal racing).
As well as the sunroof adds about 40lbs over a regular roof.

Screw the weight, I need HEADROOM.
Any place besides a drag strip where you'd race, is going to require a helmet. If ya can't fit in a good driving position with a helmet on, then you can't really race it. (I'm 6'5 and I fit with my helmet on... if I put the seat all the way forward and the seatback all the way back... which is an extremely poor driving position, one I wouldn't even use for putting around on the street let alone use on a track!)

My main interest with the T2 sunroof problem is weight, i'm under 6ft so the head room isn't a problem (although with a helmet it could be a problem). I hate having undue weight that high on the chasis. If it weren't going to be a street car I'd just cut the majority of the roof out and rivet an aluminum sheet up there or somthing...
