I personally have not done this to my car, nor has anyone Ive known or seen...with the obvious exception of the car in question.

By me, I mean myself only and noone else on the forum. I am not implying that there are others who havent done this, I just mean that I havent (I being me...not to be confused with anyone else) If theres any question as to who I am referring to when I say that I have not done this, let me clear that up now...I am only referring to myself . Again thats me (Nick) and Me (Nick) only. Perhaps there are others who have done this to their cars, but me, myself....I have not done it. I have no air scoop on the front bumper of my RX7. Theres a chance that AreExSeven or one of his buddies has this done, so you may want to check with him personally

I would like to take this opportunity to thank AreExSeven for showing me the error of my ways. I posted in a thread here on the forum in which I question was asked. He pointed out to me that my input was unnecessary as it wasnt exactly what the author was looking for...unlike his respone which was in so many ways related to the subject at hand: Air Scoop on Bumper...

I had the idea of putting one there myself....except it was to be slightly longer. Say almost the length from lens to lens....with about 2-3 inches on each side between the vent and the lens.....I also had the idea to make the intake run fully across the radiator support...scooping into my custom intake....judging on the pressure schematic floating around this forum I believe it would almost be a ram air intake.....i will post pics of mine if I get it together and looking good....

That is directly infront of the bumper. Unless its removed that scoop is useless. I am in the process of fitting a "Octane" front bumper to my T2 with a huge opening in the center, that will necessitate removing the bumper. On a sidenote I think that LOOKS awesome.

You would have alot of worthless posts to search through. When I post a message and come back and notice it has replies, I hope to find some useful information rather than coming in to see a bunch of people giving me worthless "can't help ya" answers. If you don't know, or its not funny, just don't respond....

BoostMotorSport what do you mean unless the scoop is removed it is useless? Have you seen the intake for a new RamAir Pontiac? It sits on top of the radiator support and air is forced in through an opening such as the one I plan on cutting in my bumper.....using a intake such as the Pontiac one I think it would force more air into my custom airbox.....think it to be benificial? Anyone elses thoughts on this?

I've seen it once. The car was at the Tristate RX7 picnic held a couple months ago. The owner had a front mount IC and everything in the front of the car was removed. (IE: No A/C, no bumper pad/support, nothing.) the car was a Black S4. It looked weird because the owner didn't take the time to finish the duct. It was just a whole in the bumper.

I didnt say the scoop would be useless, I said without removing the bumper(behind the new hole) it would be useless. Are you aware that directly behind the bumper cover, there is infact a bumper? After thats gone, yeah the added flow would be beneficial.

Also "ram air" and getting a lil more air around a cone filter are 2 totally different things. Ram air is virtually impossibly on a rotary. Unless you have intake temp problems, I dont think your filter is running out of air! Lower temps are always good though.

The way I undertand it is- that on some specific older Domestic cars(dont know them well enough to remember which one) they had a scoop set up, going directly into the intake, with a very straight shot into the manifold, with a tapering cone shape on the way in it, which caused the intake air to slightly compress. Producing as much as 1-2 actuall LBS of "natural" boost at high speeds. Thats what I have always understood ram air as, not just any scoop that air flows through. Also, with the intake configuration on a rotary that would be (IMO) impossible to accomplish.

i plan on doing that to my car eventualy. give a better shot of air for a front mount. what boostmotorsports is saying is behind the uerathane nose on the FC there is an actual structural piece that would have to be removed in order for the air to get to the radiator/intercooler/air filter. however i think i can get away with cutting through mine, but im not sure. i havent checked it out enough yet. alot of aftermarket places sell noses with the slot already cut out. i can think of a few off the top of my head.

The newer Ram Air intakes are not a straight shot...they take all the most normal twists that an intake makes. I just bought my mother a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am, with the Ram AIr V6.....now from cursory glance of her intake and a few measurements I think that something can be fabricated to fit the rx-7....all the newer Ram Air intakes do is force more air at faster speeds down the throat of the engine.....and with the slot cut in the frount bumper, and the engine coolant overflow relocated, I think that would work fine....guess the only way to find out is to do it!

while boost is inferring that you have to have a "straight shot" in order to actually increase the air pressure around the filter, air does not always have to go "straight" in order to maintain a high cfm rate. also keep in mind that this is the best place on the car to get "cold" air from, if you could create a scoop, that mounts underneath the structural part of the bumper, then cut-away from the non struct part, you could feed this into the filter, or "cold air box" (prefferable)

this may or may not increase the pressure around the filter, but it is by no means "impossible" to have "ram-air" on a 7

i think bondo and epoxy resin fumes can cause a severe case of cerebral-rectal inversion, especially when combined with misplaced Honduh parts.....

Like what has been said before, if you leave the bumper in it is useless. Another option would be to run piping from one of your brake vents to your filter/put the filter down in front of the wheel well.
