Air in radiator
Hi all,
I just found this forum by following a link on the corvetteforum.com
Let me introduce myself: My name is Roger and moved from Belgium to the US about 3 years ago. Currently I own a '81 and a '99 Corvette and one '86 RX7 .
The RX7 (Euro version) is parked in Belgium and drive it only when I get back to Europe. (approx. 2~3 weeks/year). I think it was the GXL version, no turbos for Europe at the time.
The car has about 100.000 miles and never gave me any problem except a tranny (5sp) change every 35000 miles.
The problem is now that every 2 days or so, the low coolant warning light comes on. Every time I have to fill up the radiator. In the reservoir, the coolant level keeps on rising.
Where does the air in the radiator keep coming from? There are no visible water leaks. ?
The car runs strong and starts on the first attempt, even after a one year rest period. (I have to recharge the battery first of course)
Most of the miles were driven on German Autobahn and my cruise speed was around 100 - 120 mph.
I would appreciate if somebody knows what's going on because tomorrow night I'll fly to Europe .
Thanks in advance
Roger

Rickrx7 is right. My understanding of how the thing should work is.......The radiator is full and the water in the overflow tank is on its hash mark. You drive the car and the coolant expands and the displaced water goes into the overflow tank. You put the car up for the nite. The engine and coolant cool off and cause a vaccum which pulls the coolant that went into the overflow tank earlier to now flow back into the engine. What could be happening with your car is the radiator cap is defective or the hose between the overflow tank and filler is defective which means instead of sucking coolant back into the engine from the overflow tank, it is sucking air back into the engine. Make sure the cap is good and the hose between the filler and the overflow tank are secure. Or your problem could be something else(don't think so) which we will not discuss since its Sunday and I'm trying to be a nice person for 24 hrs.Difficult to do.
