Air intake temp sensor...do I need it?

Alright...well I just got my rtek 2.0 setup and plugged in. Looking at the error codes...it shows o2 sensor...which I have a wideband o2 sensor now...so that may have something to do with it. Other than that...the only error I get is an intake temp sensor error.

My question is...what exactly does this sensor do? Is it necessary? Where exactly is it located and how do I get to it, if it does in fact need to be replaced? This is on an 88 TII/

hey i have an 87 gxl and my sensor is plugged in right behind the air intake box. i dont know if its in the same place on an 88 tII. It is necissary, if you live in an environment with a temp fluctuatino of more than like 20 degrees farenheighT; it wont hurt your engine (except long term hot runnung conditions) really. it tels the computer to adjust the air/fuel mix according to the temp. If you have a comp, where you can program the air/fuel mix, you can use that and do away with the sensor, or you can figure out the amount of current moving through it at whatever temp you want the engine to thin kit is (colder= higer fuel ratio), unplug the sensor and put a resistor in it (I did this on my acura to boost the fuel mix w/o a computer)

What reading do you get if you view the sensor data on the Palm?

It is important, particularly on a turbo'd engine. The ECU retards timing as intake temps increase to prevent detonation. It's located on the TB inlet. Do not "do away with the sensor", that is a dumb idea. Fix the problem.

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking for. Under the "diag" section it displays "intake air temp sensor" under the errors...then at the bottom there are 2 #'s

on the left there is 0001 and on the right there is 0000.

Where exactly is this sensor, and how can I go about checking to see if it's even there. The reason I ask, is because the engine was rebuilt and installed by someone else. I really don't know what I'm looking for...but I'm sure I can find it with a description of what I'm looking for.

Find the intercooler outlet hose on the left, rear side of the engine.

One part of that hose is connected to the throttle inlet duct.

The sensor is screwed into the intake duct. It's a metal duct. The sensor has two blades for the connector to attach to.
