Air Flow Sensor cause of non-start?
Installed a HKS Mega Flow filter (with all the trimmings), re connected all lines, but forgot the AFS. The car fired and ran but it smelt real rich so I killed it. THen we noticed the plug was disconnected. We plugged the plug back in and went to fire her and all she did was crank. I noticed that the tach moved when the plug was disconnected but didn't do a thing when the plug was in. Ane ideas......need help ASAP, I need to be somewhere tomorrow and this is my daily driver.

that plug is required for running. probably the most important sensor in the car.
maybe you flooded the car when you turned it off. I would the unflooding tasks.

The wires was broken so I repaired it......could that be the problem?
And are those wires connected the right way?

Which unflood procedure did you do? The complex one is the one you will probably need to do if you didnt. You might also want to check your spark plugs as they may be fouled by the fuel if you didnt as well. Could it be possible that your AFM could be upside down? I know s4s have the flapper door but I have a s5 with a cone style.

***And how bad/long can you run without the AFM plugged in***
Holding the key to START, engages the fuel pump for as long as the key is to the START position. Normally the car will start.....then the key is released and now the micro switch in the afm keeps the fuel pump working.
What happen here is.....he went to START. The pump ran as long as the key was in that position. The car momentarily started and he let the key go to ON. Now the fuel pump was deactivated and since the afm plug was off....it stopped running.
His car is now probably flooded. The afm looks like toast/fubared up good. I could be wrong.....but I don't think so. I've no idea why the thing is gutted like that (cover off and been played with). That is the major reason it won't run right now. I'd go to the junk yard and pick one up for fifty bucks and install it without playing with it. Just plug it in. No screw removal etc.

I flugged up the AFM. I busted one of the wires and had to hack into it to repair the damaged goods (notice the electrical tape). I think that this is my problem but I am not 100% sure. If it is I need an AFM ASAP.

yea thats what I did and I think that flugged it up. I tried repairing them but am getting nothing after I re did everything......I did notice when it was unplugged the tach moved. Plugged in the tach is still. I am still trying to salvage this one but will buy a new one as soon as I get some PM's back.

Make sure the EGI INJ and the EGI COMP fuse in the engine bay are intact. Make sure the ENGINE fuse in the interior is intact. If so, then unplug the afm.
Get a digital meter out. Put the negatice lead on a good ground. Put the meter on DC volts. Put the positive lead on the Brown/white wire on the plug that goes to the afm. There should be what they call a reference voltage there. It should be 4 to 5 volts. If its not there....uggggh. There is a chance the ECU has a problem now. I've noticed that if there is no reference voltage on the brown/white wire that you'll also not get spark. The devive that triggers the coil/ignitors uses that same reference voltage (just observations, no written proof of that). So if you dead shorted that brown white wire at the afm you could have done the ECU in. You'll find that same brown/white wire at several connectors. One of which is the boost/pressure sensor, tps, variable resistor,ATP sensor etc. That's just what I think. I could be way off the mark. Who knows.

Well take a look at this pic
I checked the connections between the plug and the internals and didn't get a single reading. They all tested 0.0's.

Pull the plug off, then look for 4-5volts on the brown/white wire at the PLUG. Its possible that something inside is pulling the voltage down to zip. Key to ON, please. Not START, but ON.
Also pull the plug off the boost/pressure sensor and see if you have 4-5volts on its brown/white wire. Key to ON, please. If no voltage at either place.......write back. Do check the two fuse in the engine compartment. EGI COMP and EGI INJ, and also check the 80amp fuse also (if the starter turns over that one is good to go).
EDIT: That plug should pull straight off. Its got a hair spring retaining it. That's all. The brown/white should be in the middle of the plug. Check the voltage at the plug, not the afm. Make sure its disconnected from the afm.

Hey, about that afm. You do know that in the factory service manual at http://www.iluvmyrx7.com, there are resistance values in the Fuel Section. Try the 88 model.

Update. I wires up the AFM to the best of my knowledge and I can get the car started, it idles weird for about 10 seconds and dies. The middle to connectors pictures above have some solder on them that I don't know what it does. I am desperately looking for a used AFM ASAP. I need it shipped same day or over night. Anyone can do this for me?

Ok. You know about the fuel pump check connector near the right hand strut tower? The one that is yellow and has two sockets. Might have a black boot over it. Jumper those two sockets together. Now start the car and drive it around. What happened?

Could the spark plugs be bad now after all that starting?
