Air Conditioning Recharge

I read a thread about a year back about the retrofit kits killing AC systems, the little conversions from R12 to R134, what exactly was negative about this? I don't recall exactly what the issue was with our systems.

My friend did it to his Supra and it blows colder than the R12 he used to have, just wondering the negative of the retrofit kit, and if anyone had any experience.

The condensor on our cars will make r134a worse than r12. Just one of the few things. I have ran a search before, there is lots of information here.

From what I have read the pressure sensor that turns the compressor on and off is not the best for 134a how true that is I don't know. The easiest thing to do is get some freeze 12 which will mix with r12. That is what I plan on doing

Im not realy into this because i mostly work with cars with R134a, but what i remember is that R12 and R134 / R134a are that much different that the o-rings for R12 will get eaten away by the R134.

*correct me if i'm wrong*

Ah, back in the day the Pro's had a couple of names for them. 'Death kit' is one nickname. Another nickname is 'College Fund', i.e. 'I'm gonna make enough money to send my kids to college on this things'.

The condenser in our FC rx7's has insufficient area to successfully retro fit to 134a. You can't get a correct charge-the pressure is too high (damaging the compressor, bursting the hoses etc). Adjust the charge down, now the car doesn't cool well.

The best thing to use is Freeze12. Do a complete vacuum. Charge 2-12 oz cans. Done.

No and No! Don't mix Freeze12 with R12. This won't work well. Oh, and it is also illegal.

No not true. Any connection that is taken apart should have a Green O-ring for a replacement. Green means it is compatible with all oils. This is just good practice to replace old O-rings when you take the joint apart. The modern synthetic oils will not eat the old O-rings.

Don't take any connections apart to replace the O-rings unless they are leaking. On these old systems you are asking for trouble if you start taking connections apart for no reason. If the connection is leaking, then yes, take them apart, replace with Green O-ring.

I hope this helps, good luck.

Freeze 12 is a direct replacement for R12. I have had it in my car now for two years without a problem. Goggle Freeze 12 and form your own opinion.
