ahhh! help me decide what to do w/my tranny
ok, here are my problems. and i KNOW it's the bearings, but what should i do about it? should i
A: have my tranny rebuilt
or
B: have someone install new bearings
keep in mind, i am on a strict budget & will have to pay for it myself. i know it's my bearings because the shift lever(the metal part under the ****) gets pretty hot when the car is warmed up. and when i release the clutch(take my foot off of it) in neutral it makes that annoying sound. also my gears aren't grinding and i have a fairly new clutch/flywheel. and will be putting that redline stuff in as soon as i can. will the bad bearings cause the tranny to wear out? oh, and it has 160,000 miles on it.
also one last thing. my car idles @1350rpm... good?
thanks for any replies

Did you replace the throw out bearing, and what condition was the clutch fork in? Sounds like it could be the throw out bearing IMO. I thought that the rx7 was supposed to idle around 750rpms.

bruce, i thought it was too, but it's 1350... i haven't replaced any bearings yet.
j-rat, what a coincidence... what condition is it in? and how many miles? N/A or TII
oh, and is it FOR SALE?

Honestly, I dont think you need a new tranny. Your shifter lever getting hot is because your boots under your shifter cover are gone. This has happened to all of us.
The annoying sound when you take your foot off the clutch is probably your throwout/pilot bearing.
Idle at 1350? Not good, but not tranny related.
But if you insist, I have both an N/A and TII tranny. The N/A is mileage unknown. As previously stated, I dont think you need it though.

it could be a vac leak, but if it's not then how would i check my throttle positioning sensor? also, how bad can a high idle be on the motor?
it was rebuilt about 10,000 miles ago

You need to get the idle down before you check your TPS. Is it bad for your car? Sure, it isnt great, but if you dont mind the high idle, and the possible loss of performance, then by all means, go for it.
Possible things that can be making you idle high:
BAC (doubtful though)
Vacuum leak
Binding/misadjusted throttle cable
Misadjusted throttle stop
Timing set waaaay off
