aftermath of the "ATF TRICK"
i did the atf trick because one of my freinds had reccomended it for my high miled s5. but after doin it exactly like the instructions said it sounds like it is only runnin on one rotor. its loading up really bad and backfiring extrememy loud and has absolutely no power. even less then my geo metro. it wont idle you have to keep your foot in the gas and it starts like its missing out. i ran the codes and the only one that came up was number ten. air flow meter. i replaced it and it still dont run any different.

Did you change the plugs afterwards? If not, then do it now.
Do you have your cat? You may have clogged it.
Or, the "trick" may have dislodged a large piece of carbon, which tore up one half of the engine. Check compression.
And DO NOT do the "ATF Trick". http://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/atftrick.htm

you may have stuck one of your seals. sometimes the ATF will only dissolve the carbon to a certain point, and turns it into a greasy sludgy type ****. if this is the case, what you need to do is just get the engine up to operating temperature, and rev it up to 3k...or as close as it will go, and hold it there a while...at some point the engine vibrations will free the seal, and all of a sudden the car will 'pop' back to normal and run great. I have had this happen several times on different cars.

i use water to clean the engine internals, it has good and bad affects but it is the lesser of 2 evils to clean out the internals of a rotary. sorry for your luck but as pat said i would just let it rev to about 3k for about 20 mins or so and watch some tv, hopefully whatever got lodged in there gets dislodged, if it is a clogged cat it may burn off.

Your car ran so shitty before the ATF trick that you thought you had a blown motor. No one can blame the ATF trick for anything (helping or hurting it) on this particular motor, because it still runs the same as it did. This thread should not be called, aftermath of the "ATF TRICK", it should be called "my car still runs like ****".

Is there still the error code for the AFM? Did you disconnect the battery after you replaced the AFM and leave it disconnected for at least a minute?
Aaron: have you ever let the oil rings/dowel rings/etc soak in ATF and see what it does to it?

did you use ATF or MMO? i know they are close to the same thing, but MMO is slightly different than ATF in composition, and i know for a fact that it dissolves carbon nicely. don't know what it does to Viton, tho. It swells the **** out of regular rubber... i had to throw away a syringe is used for unflooding because i left it full and the MMO swelled the plunger so much that it froze up. ended up breaking the damn thing apart when i pulled it out.

Good page Aaron, its too bad that mis-information (like the whole atf trick bs) seems spread faster than correct information....
