Aftermarket Oil Pressre Gauge Install...
OK, quick question as I have not had all my questions answered while searching. I have an aftermarket oil pressure gauge (trust/greddy) that I would like to install. I can handle setting up the gauge itself in the interior. I need two things though:
-- A translation from japanese so I can wire the thing properly without blowing it up.
-- A good location to install the sender. Could I just remove the stock one? Does it do anything else besides move the built in meter that is crap?

The stock sending unit does nothing else beside operate the stock gauge, so if a dead gauge in your cluster doesn't bother you, it's location is ideal.
The other (probably more common) method is to interpose a plate between the oil filter and its pedestal and place the sending unit there.
Lots of places make such plates and they're cheap and easily installed.
My Japanese is terrible (read: nonexistent) so no help with the wiring.

My Japanese isn't much better so I still need a wiring translation.
When I take apart my dash and such, I might end up removing that pressure gauge and putting the aftermarket one there.
The plate idea is a good idea too. I'll look into that.

Lemme get back home tonight and pull it out of the box again. I'll see if I can provide some pictures. I can provide scans of the manual should someone who knows some Japanese would like to translate.

While I'm sitting here for a bit, waiting for emails and the phone to ring, I'm also installing an aftermarket temperature gauge. I could tap into the water pump housing thing to install the sensor or I could pick up one of those oil filter boxes and run the temp gauge there. Which would be better for determining the overall "heated health" of the motor. My last one died due to overheating.
Also, what is the normal operating temperature for a rotary? I've seen a few posts stating that 180 is when the thermostat starts to open and it's fully open at 200 with 210 being a bit high for the motor. All of these numbers are in Fahrenheit, not Celsius.
Heh. The instructions for the temp gauge are also in Japanese. I think my life is telling me to learn the language or something. On the plus side, the wiring, if I remember right, appears to be the same (yay standards!!) so the answer for one may apply to the other.
Also, what is the normal operating temperature for a rotary? I've seen a few posts stating that 180 is when the thermostat starts to open and it's fully open at 200 with 210 being a bit high for the motor. All of these numbers are in Fahrenheit, not Celsius.

Sweet! After a bit of poking around, I have the other tech manual for the temp gauge too. This is a recent addition I think as I have poked around their site before. Either way, thanks Nyvan.

Most oil filter pedestals have 2 sensor holes one for pressure the other for temp... but water temp is also critical to moniter.
