Aftermarket intake problems.
Yesterday I anstalled an intake on my 86 N/A. It's just a basic adapter with a K&N filter. I also bought a small breather filter(the kind rice boys usually stick on their cars) and a new short hose, and put that on the line that used to go from the air pump to the stock air box. It was my assumption that the air pump just sucks air from the air box, so I just wanted it to be clean air. Anyway, the car ran exactly the same at first, no power loss or gain.
However, after the car has been running for awhile, I start to really lose a lot of power. I know the intake is sucking some hot air, and I'm going to build some sort of cold air box to seperate it, but I am losing WAY too much power for it to just be hot air. I think something else has messed up that is cutting power. It seems to get worse over 3800 rpm, and and as I rev higher. If I just kill the car for a minute, it runs fine for a while.
Any ideas? Could this have anything to do with the air pump or any device related to it?
If I can't figure anything out, I'll stick my stock air box back on tomorrow and see what happens.

That ought to be the last mod you do cause the gains are minimal if any. Remember the air still passes through that little "barn door". You will only notice it at very high rpms. Yes, something else has to be wrong. You only loose a little less than 1% power per 10 deg rise in temp.
