aftermarket guages

well ok this is going to be a bit long, so bear with me... i just got me some VDO Vision series gauges (water temp, oil temp, oil press, boost), all of them are electrical except the boost... questions are:

1. should i wire the lighting to the light switch (4 lights)? can the light switch circuit handle all that additional power usage? or should i wire them separate from the light switch and add fuses to the wires? if wiring separately, what rating of fuse should i use?

2. how can i disable the stock boost guage? what connector/wire do i get at it?

3. where else besides the water pump housing can i put in the water temp sender? i was thinking about a t-fitting through the small coolant hose passing the BAC Valve... would that work? (i know the housing is the best place, but as for now i can't do it yet, and i just want a place to mount it temporarily and still get a pretty good reading)

Lets see here. I have four gauges hooked up to the rheostated power from the light dimmer switch. No probs from that setup for the past year. As far as a fuse to protect the dimmer I don't know. If I was to guess I would say 3amp ? I forgot what wire I used but it is inches from the dimmer its self.

You really should leave the stock boost gauge alone. The reason I say this is because it is important. When you turn your ignition on you should look to see the needle moves to zero boost. This is sort of a self check for the boost sensor. If this doesn't show that you should check out your boost sensor. IF it isnt hooked up how do you know it isnt working?

I am not sure about this. But I recall somebody having major problems boosting with a malfunctioning boost sensor. Look into it.

And on that water temp prob location. Hum, the normal location is the housing. But where else? It needs to be some place where coolant is constantly moving. Reguardless of the thermostat being open or closed. I believe that house that runs to the BAC would work. Completly a guess. You would want to look at a diagram. Or just test the posistion.

Good for you on getting an oil temp gauge. That is a great one to have! How are you mounting the temp/pres gauge?

Good luck!

James

got me an fc3s.org pedestal, totally simplifies oil sensors mounting

well i guess i'll have to look into the water temp sensor mounting again, just changed thermostat not long ago, don't want to go through that again for now, more other things to take care of first... i thought the bac coolant hoses constantly gets coolant pumped through it too
