afterburn
In the Haynes repair manual it talks about afterburn (popping noises). Is this the loud noises heard from a car after it has been driven. If so, I am getting a lot of these loud popping noises from the exhaust of my car after I drive it. What does this mean?
Afterburn is the technical term for backfiring, and it occurs while driving the car.
So these noises in my exhaust are just the exhaust cooling down correct? I just had to make sure because I know the exhaust in these kinda cars is a lot hotter than most others, and the others cars I have driven had not had the noise that loud, so I'm guessign it's just because the exhaust gets so much hotter right?

It means your car is running richer then normal, adjusting it will almost do away with that popping noise. I have my car adjusted enough where it doesnt do it anymore. Lean it out abit....then go from there
