Why don't you just ban me and skip all the intermediates.
If you got a problem with something I said, why don't you PM me.
I don't see anything wrong with what I said except for some sarcasm; I see that kinda **** in other threads all the time yet those people don't get warned.
If you got something personal with me, PM me.
Do you know why I said that?
One of the guys down here just bought a 10thAE for $2,000.
Did the previous owner know that the car was special?
Not really.
Do most other people know the car is special?
Not really.
So who does acknowledge it's a special edition?
RX-7 lovers.
Does this make the car a "collectible"?
Not for most people.
There is a general perception from others than the particular "model experts" (i.e RX-7 folks) that the car is special (i.e. 1969 Camaro, 1953 Corvette, any Ferrari) then it's considered a collectible.
Is car "rare" - YES.
Is the car a collectible - NO.
Does "rare" = "collectible"? Not all the time.

either way i dont see anything special about it
a white s4 , with a diff steering wheel, white wheels, and 2 exterior badges... WOW! I MUST NEED ONE I WILL BUY IT FOR 5X THE PRICE OF A NORMAL ONE BECAUSE ITS GOT BADGES
if it had suspension work and/or engine work maybe...but i fail to see where it compares to anything different

every car i own now and in the future will be stripped to the ****, have the lightest 15" rims on it that i could find, and be spray painted to cover the rust. so it REALLY DUZNT MATTER if it is a special edition to me, because i wouldnt even be able to tell anymore.

The AE is nothing to special, in my opinion...
It's only real good quality is it's a turbo.
Looks wise, it's white...which isn't my favorite color on a FC... i guess that badge looks cool.
If it means something to you, awesome... it's your car, and cherish it like you would any other FC.... but i do believe the AEs are a bit over rated...

Here is a pic of my AE. Kind of dirty but didn't get a chance to wash the car yet. Its in the process of getting rebuilt (pulsation damper victim.) Going to rebuild it 100% stock for daily driving.
The bads:
Torn leather seats (have temporary black GXL leather seats)
Flaky paint just behind front wheel and on bottom part of door. (minor)
Engine bay fire (obviously)
Everything else is original and in excellent shape (even all the bronze glasses.) Interior is in excellent shape. Rest of the paint is good. Even have the original floor mats.
I do realize that the AE is just a bloated luxury model but hey, it will be my daily beater soon and for some minor auto-x'ing. I'll build up another FC later on (still have a bunch of FC goodies in my garage) and I'll look for an S4 base model to do the TII swap on since they're the lightest.

What are you building up right now John? Aside from your "Pine-crapple" incident, you don't really seem to keep us posted on your project cars anymore. Any word on the coolant seals yet?
I also think the 10AE is overrated. Its just a white S4 TII with side badges and the most hideous stock FC rims outside phone dials and the base model S5 steelies. The car is not any cooler because it is a 10AE, it just means people will be unjustifiable angry if you mod it.
I also think there were more than 1500 of these things built. Of ALL of the 88 TII's I have seen in Canada, all of them were 10AE's. I have never seen a simple Canadian 88 TII, and I deal with a lot of cars. Was the 1500 number only for the United States?

That's weird that there seems to so much 10th AE bashing in this thread.
I love 10th AE's for what they represent and the rareness of them.
I thought the only infighting in the FC Community was the endless Turbo vs. NA War...looks like there is even more cliques out there than I thought.
Weird.

Example, take a guy. Any guy. Say.... your dad. Now put a white jacket on the him. Sure, now he's cut himself down to the category of "guys who wear white jckets", and only 10% of the population of guys wear white jackets, but is your dad actually any cooler?
Of course not. He's the same guy, different coloured clothing.
Its delusional to think the car is anything more special than it is; the car will never go down in history as a hugely desired collectible such as a Yenko Camaro or Shelby Mustang, yet the owners of the cars seem to have the same attitude about their cars. Its just a fully loaded white S4 TII. It wasn't even the rarest RX-7 offered, not by a long shot, and it s not nearly as loaded as most of the S5's.
If 10AE's were so special, they'd be the most desirable RX-7, yet the majority of RX-7 owners lust after the S5 TII's. Its really only current owners of 10AE's that consider them rare and extremely sought after.

Right now John is out of commision due to a crappy back, I am having Surgery tommorow morning (weds MAr.3 ) to have my C5 and C6 vertabrae fused. So that has kept me out of the shop.
Projects: 76 RX-4 autocross/drivers school beater
BFH: Waiting on parts as usual
I sold my 20B due to a lack of time to pull it off in a timely fashion.(and to fund additional goodies for the BFH), New Suspension Piesces from K2RD and some nifty doo-dads from the aussies. Since I haven't been doing any work on it, I haven't posted any updates.
On the coolant seals: I am still waiting on the supplier. MY low-volume project is not real high on their priority list, but sometimes you have to wait.

Everyone in their lifetime has had in their possession something they thought was "special" which they felt was worth more to them that someone else.. I'm sure at one time had a hockey/baseball card.. heck a coin or stamp collection, with a special card/stamp which you thought was worth more than the paper they were printed on... but unless someone was willing to give you what you thought was worth the value, in the end, it's still just printed material....

Let's face it-"Beauty Is In The Eyes Of The Beholder"!
The people who own 10AE's feel they are very special, as others feel about their cars. Got to admit that some of the 10AE's pictured are pristine, but there are also non AE's that are in pristine condition.
When Mazda bought my '88TII back, they offered an AE for replacement. I declined because I really didn't like the wheels and taillights, as well as the mechanical problems with the S4, so I waited for the S5 TII to come out, and purchased a TII with Mazda's help. I personally believe this car is far superior and wouldn't let it go.
As far as resale value, it appears to me that S5 convertibles commendeer the most money. Too bad there's not a factory turbo convertible, then we'd be talking about the ultimate. Maybe not the fastest, but a great combination, top down and quick.
Just my thoughts!

all I have to say is, I'd much rather be driving a 1991 S5 TII than the 10AE, there is nothing special about it, so they only made 1500, lots of cars are low production. so it has a different steering wheel, who cares about the steering wheel that much? different rims and are white, the rims are ugly anyways, I like my 91 NA stock 5-spoke rims better than those ugly things. has extra badges, uh oh, 500 hp badges, look out.
if you want some nice stock rx-7 wheels go with the S5 convertable wheels, BBS... yum... now if I could only find some

Whether it's overrated or not, it's bad when someone says your car sucks. But is it really necessary to come on the RX7CLUB and explain to someone why their RX7 sucks?

Yo,
Obviously not. Let's stir it up, shall we?
I bet everyone badmouthing 10th AE's are just jealous because everyone crowds around the AE's instead of looking at their S4/S5 TII, 'Vert, GTU, GXL, SE, Sport, or Coupe.
Of course, the only thing that can defeat the 10th AE for being an attention ***** is:
The GTUs.
Yeah, that's right. PIMPTACULAR!
*chuckle*
