AFM placement on an 2.2L Turbo RX7

My project car is an 89 GTU that Im putting a built 2.2L Turbo mx6 engine in. Ive put a hood scoop on the car and Id like to use the scoop to direct cold air directly to my turbo with a flex hose and put the AFM after the turbo. I realize the AFM has an air intake temp sensor in it but as long as its before the engine shouldnt it be more effective? (and easier to install there) Thanks

How are you controlling the engine?? MX-6 Computer I'm assuming?
So then, assuming you will be using the MX-6 AFM.
The air temp sensor is a large contributor in the A/F mixture that the computer commands. The fuel maps are designed to take input from ambient air temp at the AFM. By putting the AFM (and hence the temp sensor) AFTER the turbo, you will be getting temperature readings up to and above 100 degrees F. MORE than ambient air temps, and the incorrect air volume. It won't run right- too lean.
You'll also be subjecting the whole AFM to temps over 200 degrees F, not what it's designed for.

My two cents... to do it propely just mount the AFM before the turbo.

Thats what I figured but I was a little more concerned about the AFM being slammed wide open once I got boost. Sigh...too bad the easy ways never work

Very interesting swap. Isn't the 6 fwd? Doesn't that complicate the conversion alot?

its not too bad. The bulk of the work was finding the parts to do it. Ive just been really busy lately and havent finished it.

At the risk of sounding like a "negative-nancy", why in the world would you turn a very-well-balanced RWD car into a nose-heavy FWD car? Perhaps I'm missing something?

Ive never posted here and not been questioned about it. B/C I can get more reliable power out of an F2T DOHC cheaper and no one else has done it. Its not very much heavier than a 13b. Its nothing corner balancing cant fix.

I was under the impression that he was mounting the engine logitudinally for RWD.

I didn't mean to make any accusations, I was just curious. It sounds like a neat project, and I'm interested in seeing the results. Keep us posted!
