Advice tips for S5 turbo Halfbridge w/Power FC for S5 FC(not FD model) into S4 TII

I'm buying a S5 Bridge ported 13bt with power fc and commander. Its a full setup with 60mm turbo, greddy manifold, 1600cc injectors ect.

My car is an 87 TII thats dead.

Would it be too difficult to make a harness adapter for the 2 dash to ecu connectors. What would be the easiest way to make this work with my car.

Thanks,
Trae

look in the power FC section of this forum.

Yes and no. AP Engineering in Japan (which is a shop that's VERY close with Apexi)
made a kit for the '89-91 RX-7's. It's basically a 3rd gen PowerFC with a harness to plug
it in to the stock FC3S wiring harness, a boost sensor, and an intake air temp sensor."

I have a spare s4 ecu I'll use the connector to make a harness from to the PFC. Similar to what Banzai sells but with a S4 connector for the dash accessories.

Thanks

^ You will need a 4th connector for the PFC. There are 4 ECU connectors on the FD harness.

And the AP Engineering is more than just the FD PFC with a jumper harness. There is a different calibration the EPROM. The default fuel, timing, boost, and injector presets are all different. It also can control the factory FC coils without any wiring.

Cut as few factory wires as possible. Use as much of the s4 electronics as you can Bolt the s4 throttlebody onto the s5 UM (that's what I have right now on my s4). Use the S5 manifolds and the s4 OMP if you choose to keep it. Use the s4 injectors so that the connectors work. Use an FD IAT sensor or buy the Triumph IAT sensor that people have been running (I am using the Triumph IAT). Use the s4 water thermosensor, but I recommend replacing this because they do go bad.

For the Power FC itself, your best bet is to buy the Banzai Racing S4 harness. Don't try to hack up the AP Engineering harness, you'll probably just screw up and have a wiring nightmare. Use the s4 TPS, but you will have to run the narrow range signal to the full range pin on the PFC so that both narrow and full range read the same. You won't have to rewire any of the ignition system since you have the AP Engineering PFC.

also, don't bother posting in the Power FC section. The only people who know anything about the FC wiring are myself and Banzai Racing.

Well I was going to use the supplied injectors b/c they are 1600cc. I'm going with premix so OMP is out. Since i have both S5 and S4 turbo harnesses could I use the S4 kit from banzai my s4 harness and replace needed connections on the engine end of the harness with the ends from the s5 harness. I now I would only be using the NB Throttle sensor.

First, I have written an extensive guide for the Power FC on a 2nd gen which covers a lot of stuff. I had it up on an old geocities page but geocities is dead now and I think Banzai Racing is going to host it. PM me with your email address and I'll send it to you.

I was referring to the primary injectors--use s4 primary injectors with the matching harness so you don't have to cut anything. The 1600cc injectors will 100% work with no electrical modification on an 86-87 1/2 harness. The connectors are exactly the same (square plug with center locating tab) and the 87 harness already has a resistor box for low impedence injectors. If you have an 88 harness you can grind off the bottom locating tab so that the connectors will fit, or buy new injector connectors altogether.

The only factory FC sensors you will be retaining are

1) water temp sensor--I recommend you get a new one from the dealer, they are like $40 or something. they do go bad and that screws up your cold starts. If you are using an s4 engine harness than buy an s4 sensor so that you won't have to cut anything.

2) TPS--the reliability problems with the factory s4 TPS are well documented. Just make sure you have one that is in spec in terms of the resistance. The Power FC will work with s4, s5, or FD TPS.

If you are using an s4 TPS, splice the wire for FD pin 3G (full range signal) to FD pin 3F.

On the s4 Banzai harness, the full range (pin 3G) wire is just a loose unterminated wire that can easily be tapped into the narrow range signal or hooked up to an s5/FD TPS. If you load up your PFC Commander and go to etc. --> sensor/sw check you should see VTA1 (full range voltage) and VTA2 (narrow range voltage) are the same.

You can use the FD IAT sensor but I am running a Triumph motorcyle IAT sensor because it has an open element.

That uses a Bosch fuel injector connector.
