was it warming up? It never did it before? was there any rattling from the tranny?

Take a vid or get VERY detailed.

oil pressure is fine for idle

battery is fine at 13V

temperature seems ok. Once it goes part the red part you're in trouble. If it stays within the range then you should be fine.


The radiator shouldn't get TOO hot at idle unless you're idling for 30 minutes or so.

now here is where I get a tad lost:

I believe the S5 water temp chills halfway up

The S4 (this is what I don't recall very well) either chills 1/4 of the way or 3/4 of the way. Hope you can find the problem. DOn't forget to go get the wheels balanced and check the driveshaft while they have the car.

my dad has a tacoma.. i dont think he will let me use it because he's an ******* like that. all he does is bitch at me. so not really an option right now.

pheonix7: yeah when it started to go around 3/8 ~1/2 for the temp (this was about 5-8 minutes after starting) i decided to just turn it off because i got startled with the rumbling already. i dont remember too well either but during the winter qtr.. i think the temp didnt go that high. so thats why i asked u about it.

so i just finished moving my **** today.. i didnt get a chance to get my friend to look at the 7, but this morning i put my 5 lug conversion with 5 lug gtu wheels and tires into the 7.. i was kind of amazed it all fit.. hah. well for now, its jus sitting there.

i am planning on getting some insurance from esurance.com just so i can drive it down. maybe cancelling afterwards..

i was thinkin of maybe going to the jifflube(prob bring my own oil) or something similar before making the trek down.. seeing as how i have no garage to change oil now that my lease is up. anyone do this before?

honestly my 7 isnt all that pretty to look at but im gonna get some pictures up to show u guys my 7.. the guy i bought it off of spent 420 bucks on a one piece catback.. (i know its supposed to be dual exhaust system) gave me the reciept, too. was wondering why he would do that.. but ill get some pictures up somehow with my phone or a digi cam.

trying to get this **** in motion with the driveshaft.. pmed nairdalavodnas bout his driveshaft that he has (found it on classifieds section) planning to buy it.. says its 7 months old still has the oem sticker on it. he says 60 +20 shipping.. he lives in san diego and i live in san jose so maybe he can cut off some of the shipping. but he has a bunch of other tranny parts that u any of u guys might be interested in.. big pictures too.

so that comes to my other question: on rx7club forums how trustworthy is it when buying stuff from other members? couldnt someone just take ur money and run off? i read the sticky on buying stuff.. ive never bought anything from anyone thru a forum before. i dont see a lot of ppl saying stuff like 'i bought from this guy and he was good' or a rating system or anything of the sort.

not every 7 will look pretty so don't trip about that. I really don't think you should drive it down until you find out what's wrong because you don't want to take a chance and be stranded.

80 bux for a driveshaft is a good deal especially if it's fairly new.

As far as trustworthyness? I think the mods and people are good about exposing the scammers but it IS a chance you're taking but it's still better than ebay or any other site. We DO have a good guy/ bad guy section in the for sale area in case you wanna look ( I'd do a search for his name in west coast, for sale and goodguy/badguy section [ press Ctrl to choose those three from the menu in the search page] )

dynamic is good if the person doing it knows what they are doing... however most don't so than it sucks, I dynamic all my wheels(do it myself though) and didnt have issues driving 250km in my GTO last year..... but dynamic is a sure thing.

hey guys,

so im got my friend to drive with me to get my 7 from the place i moved out of.

This is my plan for now, i was wondering what u guys think:

I'm insured with AAA on my other car. I asked my mom if she could put me on AAA for just a month or so. But she said that it should be fine to jus drive it and if i get pulled over to jus show insurance for my other car and explain that I am jus driving it down for one day to get it home.

It is 130 miles from my old place to my house. My mom is a gold plus member with AAA and she said that if I have any problems with the 7, I should jus tow it back home. She said they should be able to tow up to 100 miles.

So my plan is to jus drive 35 miles from my old house then call up AAA, and jus tow it back. Does anyone know if this is true??? 100 miles towing with AAA??

i had a similar thing happen to me driving from KY to CA. the crush sleeve on the

drive shaft u joint had cracked and shook the whole car. same as you when you push

the clutch in it chills out. i replaced the drive shaft from a wreck yard for a quick fix

then bought a better shaft later..

also i am having the same prob as you with the smog thing.

soo.. heres the deal guys:

i jus got my rx7 back home from college! im happy its back, but i have a few concerns that i wanted to ask u guys about and also jus update u guys on my journey...

saturday: i go to my house(where i used to live)and i see my car parked where i left it. to my surprise i see a large yellow sticker on it, and on rear wheel i see a T spray painted on it! i was kinda pissed off bout this saying i only left it there for 4 days. but good thing i didnt wait any longer cuz it was a 72 hr notice/warning.

so next thing, i needed to get gas. i started her up.. had trouble with starting it cuz i think my wiring to my terminals aren't good, i need to replace them i think.. also when i get to start her, the engine rumbles and shakes from side to side kind of scary like.. so on this hot day(around 95 degrees), i drive the 7 to get gas.. so i get there fill her up 10 bucks worth so i can jus drive 40 miles and tow it the rest of the way. i attempt to start her up but she wont start! so for some reason i went to the bathroom and my friend jumps my car with his cables and he did it backwards and melts the cables.... argh.. anyways i get her to go and then since the jump got fucked up his car wouldnt start! so i use my running car to start his.. lol. so after i jump his car i get into my 7, i see that the temp gauge is at the max!!! OMG! i freak out so i turn off the car. i look under the hood, the rad hose is swollen and hot as hell. the coolant tank is 3/4 full. i was worried sick thinking i might have fucked it up. but i jus couldnt understand why it would be like that when idliling, during a jump. im still kind of scared that i fucked up my engine..

so i call up the tow guy (AAA), and he comes really fast and the total is 130 miles. and i get 100 miles for AAA. the extra 30 miles is gonna be $210 approx. so i tell him to jus drive me to the 100 mile mark cuz i didnt have 200+ bucks on me at the time. before i load the 7 in, i jus look under the hood one last time i see the rad hose is now 'sucked in'. so he drives me to the 100 mile mark. i decide to jus check out the 7. i start her up, right when i start her up the engine rumbles and shakes again for like 5 seconds and then it goes away... dunno what that it is.. but then i let her warm up for a bit like 5-8 minutes and shes fine.. the temp doesnt go too high or anything. (outside temp was about 85 degrees) so i jus get my friend to pick me up so i can jus tow it the rest of the way using AAA on sunday..


sunday: i get there at around 3pm, i decide to start her up.. doesnt even start up or make a crank. i decide to jump her and everything is fine, i start her up fine.. let her warm up for 5 mins,, she rumbles again.. the shaking looks kind of nuts actually.. i dont remember it doing that before.. so then i drive her around for bout 1/4 to 1/2 mile, (local, not going past 30 mph) everything seemed ok. i didnt want to drive it back home cuz of the driveshaft so i call the towing company again and get it towed back. and now its back home.

so do u guys think i overheated and screwed up my engine?

i jus tried to start it again.. doesnt even crank.. but i think it might be my wiring/battery.

ill try to get a digital camera tmrw to jus record it being started up. thanks for the advice in advance.

wow. Ummm, i don't know what to tell you.

hopefully you caught it early enough to avoid major damage.

CHeck your fuses and see if you can turn her on again.

dude why did you waste my time in the other thread when your car doesn't even run, it sounds like you need alot of time and money before you even need to worry about smog

i did state on my post that my car does run. i jus started her up after the overheat. i just started her up this morning after charging my battery -- it was the wiring: sorry for the confusion.

jus took a few pictures.. shes a lil beat up but yea i jus got her home yesterday.

i charged the battery and tightened the terminals and she starts fine now.

yes it's very possible.

you may have cooked your coolant seals, you'll need to get it fully warmed up and watch the coolant flow for bubbles, also large amounts of white smoke from the exhaust. drive it around and see if theres any loss of coolant, if you don't have any of these problems your probably ok.

your very lucky your friend didn't fry your harness and ecu when he hooked up the cables backwards.


it sounds like you need to get a manual and do some reading.
pretty much anything you can think of has already been discussed here before. the search button is your best friend it can answer any question aslong as you ask it.

i started her up yesterday for a bit and i saw no white smoke whatsoever. where exactly should i look for the bubbles? in the overflow tank or where?

i also got under my 7 today and i tried to pull push the driveshaft.. either im weak or something but it didnt budge at all. i only could rotate it.

so i had to change my wiring for my battery and also charge her up. after i started it, the coolant light goes on.. my friend thinks that i may have shorted a sensor or something, cuz it was running jus fine earlier that day.

does anyone know where the senors are at? or what i should do?
