Adjusting The Mixture

MY car is running really rich (I think) it shoots whats looks like burnt gas from the tailpipe and it seems to flood really easy....how can I adjust the mixture on a 86 GXL so it won't run so rich???

Dude I've got an 88 Turbo II and messed up the air flow meter when I was putting a cone filter on it. So since then I have gotten a air flow meter (from a Turbo II) but the car simply will not run. When it does, it is very rich and it seems to flood itself, just like your problem. How were you able to fix your problem?

Get the injectors checked out, and if this happend after you changed your AFM, AFM might be bad.. also try to reset the ECU... disconnect the neg battery terminal for while.. >30sec

When does it do this? Are you sure it's not just perfectly normal condensation when the engine and exhaust are cold? Water is a by-product of combustion. It will smell like fuel because idle mixtures (particularly cold idle mixtures) are supposed to be rich.

... and it seems to flood really easy...
The two most common causes of flooding are dirty injectors and/or low compression.

This is bad advice. If his engine is running abnormally rich then something is wrong. You should not add modifications to mask the symptoms of a problem. You find the problem and fix it.

excellent advice. make sure your car is running good for stock before you worry about expensive toys.. otherwise, trust me, youll just have more headaches down the road.
