You mean you're reinstalling the ACV? It won't work at all without the solenoids and vac rack.

Have I misunderstood what you're doing?

You Need the Relief solenoid in order to keep the air pump air from being dumped overboard all the time, and you Need the Switching solenoid to direct the air to the split air pipe at the appropriate time. You need the air pump to be installed for the acv to work at all.

One nipple on the acv delivers airpump pressure to the Relief solenoid which in turn open/shuts at the appropriate time to pass that air back to a nipple at the bottom of the acv to opperate a internal diaphram.

The nipple that sticks straight up on the acv, gets vacuum from the Switching solenoid at the appropriate time to a diaphram inside the acv to direct airpump air to the split air pipe

The one that sticks straight up is: vacuum/switching sol

The one next to it that sticks straight out: is a passage thru the acv to the intake manifold for vacuum for the boost/sensor.

The bottom one: is pressure from the Relief solenoid.

The middle one is: airpump pressure going from the airpump to the Relief solenoid.

Without the solenoids, vac rack and air pump all in place and working, the ACV will just sit there doing nothing. Unless you plan on reinstalling all of that stuff, you're wasting your time with the ACV.

I've heard of people attempting to pass emissions by running a hose directly from the air pump to the split air pipe, i.e. no AVC. I don't know how successful they were.

I think it's gonna be more of a challange/cost to attach a catalytic converter to that DP that is mentioned in his list of things done to the car. CATCO.COM is a good starting place for a temporary cat.
