actuators controversy

I have read every where here that the actuators that activate the 5/6 ports are operated by back pressure from the exhaust (86gxl)....the haynes manual says that these actuators are operated by pressure from the air pump.
So what is it????

You may wish to search before posting, as this has been covered quite a few times before. The search function is found in the upper right hand corner of the page.

Both are correct.

The 84-88 13B used exhaust back pressure to open the aux ports.

The 89-91 13B used air pump pressure to open the aux ports and VDI.
